Mando’s second helmet removal came in season 2 episode 7 when he and Bill Burr’s Migs Mayfeld infiltrated an Imperial facility to locate the whereabouts of Moff Gideon’s cruiser. In this episode, Mando had to scan his face at a terminal to access the data he needed. However, he could not do it with his helmet on because it would alert the security system. He decided to take off his helmet in front of Mayfeld and several stormtroopers to complete his mission.

However, this created a problem for Bo-Katan Kryze who wanted to reclaim Mandalore using the darksaber as a symbol of leadership. According to tradition, the only way to wield the darksaber is by winning it in combat from its previous owner. Bo-Katan could not accept the darksaber from Mando without fighting him first.
To make matters worse, Mando removed his helmet again in front of Bo-Katan, Gideon, and several other characters to say goodbye to Grogu, who decided to go with Luke Skywalker for Jedi training. This act showed that Mando no longer cared about following the strict rules of his clan and was willing to break them for those he loved. As a result, Mando was kicked out of his clan by Bo-Katan, who saw him as a traitor and an obstacle to her plans. He also lost Grogu, his closest friend, and became an enemy of Moff Gideon, who vowed revenge. Mando was left alone, without a home or purpose.
