Why Emma Watson Decided To Take An Indefinite Break From The Big Screen

Emma Watson charmed audiences as Hermione Granger in the beloved Harry Potter series and continued to shine in diverse roles. However, since 2019, we hadn’t have seen her in any movies. She stepped away from acting and seemed to focus on new pursuits.

Emma Watson made her worldwide debut as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001), and since then, people have seen her on screen every year. However, it seemed that working too hard took its toll on her. 

In an interview, she shared that she decided to stop acting because she couldn’t find any joy in this job. She said, “I wasn’t very happy if I’m being honest,” she said. “I think I felt a bit caged.”

She revealed the negative impact the job brought on her. She said, “The thing I found really hard was that I had to go out and sell something that I really didn’t have very much control over,” She added, “I was held accountable in a way that I began to find really frustrating because I didn’t have a voice, I didn’t have a say.”

When asked if she’d return to acting, Watson frankly answered “Yes, absolutely,” However, she isn’t sure when she came back and seemed that she doesn't hurry to do so. She said, ““I’m happy to sit and wait for the next right thing. I love what I do. It’s finding a way to do it where I don’t have to fracture myself into different faces and people. And I just don’t want to switch into robot mode anymore,”
