Subsequently, a man approached his driver’s side window and soon threatened him with a gun before getting into the vehicle. Once in Watertown, the kidnappers moved a few boxes from their own car to the SUV while Danny was forced to move into the passenger seat. Then, the assailants drove off in search of a gas station as they planned on traveling to New York overnight.

Once at the gas station, Danny noticed that his assailants were somewhat distracted. Hence, he took this opportunity to escape and run across the road to a second gas station. He then convinced the clerk to allow him to call 911 before informing the police about the kidnappers’ whereabouts. Once first responders reached the scene, Danny insisted that his kidnappers confessed to the Boston Marathon Bombing. Moreover, he handed over the GPS tracking number of his car to the police, and soon officers had a good idea of the duo’s whereabouts. Although arresting the bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, would still take quite some time, Danny was allowed to return home.

Danny explained that the days following his abduction were the most difficult. He developed an intense fear of being taken again, and was reluctant to leave his home. Fortunately, his family and friends offered him their support and guidance, which enabled him to move past his hardships. He expressed his gratitude for the people who assisted him, saying, “I had to speak to the Red Cross, they gave me advice, and I talked to my friends.”
He mentioned that his professors had been very supportive and encouraged him to speak to people he could trust.
