Two Malformed Dogs Became BFFs After Being Adopted 5 Years Apart

Two deformed dogs have formed an unbreakable friendship after the same family adopted them 5 years apart.

Picasso and Newt - 2 dogs that have facial deformities live with 53-year-old Founder and director of Luvable Dog Rescue Liesl Wilhardt on 55 acres of land at their home in Eugene, Oregon. Picasso was adopted by Liesl in 2017 following the tragic passing of his sibling Pablo, then Newt came into Liesl's household in 2021. Now, these 2 canines are virtually inseparable, according to their owner.

The 5-year-old Picasso was born with a deformed nose. He suffers from an ailment called wrymouth, which causes one side of the jaw to develop more than the other, resulting in a twisted look that resembles the painting made by the famous artist Pablo Picasso, hence his given name. While this ailment can happen to different kinds of animals and does not cause any discomfort, it does make life much more difficult and reduce the pets' chance to get adopted.
The 1-year-old Newt, on the other hand, lost his upper jaw after sustaining an accident by his mother biting him.

"It was a miracle that Picasso survived being a baby because it would have been very hard for him to even nurse from his mother," Liesl said, "Newt has had many more challenges, surprisingly the bigger challenges not being caused by his lack of upper jaw."

Both of these precious dogs now live extremely happy lives despite the hardships caused by their deformities.

“Both Picasso and Newt adore people, so in public they are very outgoing and seek attention and love to greet people.” said Liels, "Most people do immediate double takes and then stare at the dogs for a while, trying to make sense of what they are seeing."
"They are not in any pain; they have adapted to their physical challenges and do almost everything they want to do."
"Picasso loved Newt from the beginning because Newt loves to play and wrestle and is so good-natured. This friendship has deepened as Newt matured," said Liesl "I absolutely love Picasso and Newt with all my heart, they are both incredibly loving, happy, intelligent, and funny dogs." she continued.

She said that at the time Picasso spends his days helping those with disabilities or illnesses as part of Liesl's rescue program.

"I love this boy so much, and he's had a hell of a rough life so far. I want the rest of his life to be amazing,"
