Twilight’s Director Reveals Who She’d Recast As Bella And Edward

You may or may not love the Twilight franchise, but there’s no denying that it's one of the most iconic teen drama series in the 2000s-2010s. And of course, the franchise’s success is largely thanks to the protagonist duo Bella and Edward, portrayed by the talented Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
With Stewart’s talent and Pattinson’s charm, the two have been one of the most popular movie couples until these days. Twilight fans have been yearning for a series reboot with the dynamic duo reprising their role, but Catherine Hardwicke, the franchise director, seems to have different picks.
Here’s the director’s choice as the new Bella and Edward should they reboot the franchise, and they might surprise you all.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Watchalong podcast, Hardwicke got a chance to rewatch the entire Twilight series again, and shared with us some interesting insights, as well as rare facts about the franchise. She also disclosed which actors she’d hand-pick for the roles of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, should the series get rebooted in the near future.
"Have you seen Saltburn yet? Yeah, Jacob Elordi, I mean, he's amazing, he probably would be Edward today...I do think there's a lot of really cool young actors...You just mentioned Jenna Ortega, she's amazing,” said the director.

For the role of Bella Swan, Edward’s wife and one of the newest members in the Cullen family, Hardwicke chooses the rising star Jenna Ortega. Playing as the angsty and foul-mouthed Wednesday in the eponymous Netflix series, Ortega’s popularity skyrockets, and she is now one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood.
Before Wednesday, Ortega also stars in three different Scream movies, further proving her versatility in acting chops. We can see some similarities between her role Wednesday Addams, and Bella Swan, as they are both somewhat cynical and calm characters, and are loyal to their friends. It’s hard to see Ortega acting heads over heels for a handsome vampire though, so it’s a scene we definitely want to see on the big screen.

And for the charismatic yet caring vampire Edward Cullen, Hardwicke picks Jacob Elordi, who’s best known for his role as Noah Flynn in The Kissing Booth trilogy. The 26-year-old then stars in Euphoria as Nate Jacobs, Priscilla as Elvis Presley, and Saltburn as Felix Carton.
Some of Elordi’s roles are also described as carbon copies of Edward, making him a perfect candidate for the vampiric character. The actor’s outlook also bears some eerily similarities to Robert Pattinson, so this is quite an accurate personal choice made by Hardwicke.

Of course, the two performers both have a packed schedule ahead, so this would be the main challenge for them to star in the reboot. Moreover, as Hardwicke said, there are still a lot of young upcoming stars to choose from aside Ortega and Elordi, who can fill in the old cast’s shoes. Therefore, it’s best to take the director’s opinion with a grain of salt.
Do you think Jenna Ortega and Jacob Elordi are the perfect candidates to replace Stewart and Pattinson? What’s your verdict for the rest of the cast, such as Alice or Jacob? Let us know in the comments, Twilight fans!
