Touching Story Of Woman Rescues And Nurtures Blind Puma At Pumakawa Reserve

In Argentina, “Estanislao Monte” means ‘Always Standing’ and it is the name of a disabled puma living at Pumakawa Animal Reserve in Argentina. His special name originated from an accident that caused him disabled when he was small. The name was then given to him as a wish from Kai Pacha, his rescuer. She hoped that after the accident, the baby cougar could grow strong enough to overcome all pain and sorrow. Luckily, passing through all the darkest and the most horrible days, the brave puma now grows up so shining.

Estanislao used to be a healthy puma and he had led a wonderful life with his family before he suffered from the most horrible accident in his life. One day, he and his sibling were suddenly hit by a big harvester when they were crossing the cornfield for food hunting. His sibling was then carried away by their mother, but Estanislao was left behind. This was the moment when Kai Pacha, the leader of Pumakawa Animal Reserve first met him.
“In the area of General Cabrera, Córdoba, a harvester ran over two puma cubs that were in a pit, frightened,” shared Kai.
After checking his situation, the heart-warmed woman immediately decided to bring the abandoned puma back to the shelter and provided him with all possible treatments.

Unfortunately, the poor cub was determined to forever lose his ability to see, so Kai could not release him to the wild. He had no chance of survival in nature with these blind eyes.
“Estanislao could not survive in nature, so our challenge is to find a way for him to live comfortably. To find the techniques and strategies for his needs,” shared Kai on Instagram.
Hence, after his wound was healed, Estanislao started his new life at the shelter and quickly got familiar with Kai Pacha and her dog Mojo. Though he couldn’t come back to his dear family, puma Estanislao knew that he had a new loving home. At the shelter, Kai and her co-workers always try their best to give this puma the best life possible under the circumstances.

Gradually, with lots of care and love from friends at the reverse, the cougar grew up happily and beautifully despite his blindness. He is now confident in finding his way around and even joins in rescuing cougar cubs when it’s needed.
