Tom Holland Picks Out His Best Spider-Man Movie Ever, And It’s Not What We Expected

Putting aside all of the speculations and heavy expectations from the audience about if he could live up to his predecessors, Tom Holland steps up and successfully portrays the iconic Spider-Man in the MCU. Compared to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, Holland brings a breeze of fresh air to the role of Peter Parker, who perfectly captures the innocence and awkwardness of a teenager who wields superpowers that go beyond his imagination, while also portraying a quippy and charming Web-Slinger persona in battles.

In real life, the British actor is also a huge Spider-Man fan, so it’s like a dream come true for him to portray his favorite superhero in such a big project. Recently, he was asked about his favorite Spider-Man movie during an interview with Variety, and his answer was shocking, to say the least, as it has nothing to do with any of his MCU titles, and it’s not any previous entry of Maguire and Garfield either. So, what’s Tom Holland’s favorite Spider-Man movie?

During his interview with Variety, when asked about his favorite Spider-Man movie, we expected the answer to be one of the three MCU projects that the actor has been involved in: Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home. However, the London native’s answer is far from what we expected, as he chose the 2018-animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as his first-rate Web-Slinger film, dubbing it “the best Spider-Man movie that’s ever been made.”

"I'm so proud of everyone involved. [Producer] Amy Pascal is like my mom. I was supposed to go with her [to the premiere of the sequel] as her date, I couldn't go because I'm here working. But I'm incredibly proud of them, I'm excited for the second one. I'm sure it will live up to every expectation, and I can't wait to see it." The recently-turned-27-year-old actor continued.

#2. The actor’s choice was understandable, since Into the Spider-Verse is a GREAT movie.

Holland’s answer may come as a nice surprise, but there’s no doubt about the actor’s personal choice, as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is widely considered to be one of the best Spidey movies of all time. The animated film even won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2019, grossing over $384 million worldwide, which is an astounding number considering how it's production cost way less than other animated big names at the time.

Following the first film’s success, the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released earlier this June, gaining positive reviews from fans, and is a huge candidate for Best Animated Feature this year as well. The third part, Beyond the Spider-Verse, is set to premiere in March 2024, which continues the unexpected twist at the end of Across the Spider-Verse.

#3. Does Tom Holland appear in the Spider-Verse?

Initially, there were plans for Holland to make a cameo appearance in the 2018 animated movie alongside Maguire and Garfield, however, the plan didn’t come to fruition, and none of the three popped up in the film.

It’s a different story in Across the Spider-Verse, though, as the three iconic Spideys all make their mark in the latest sequel. At the start of the movie, Holland’s Peter Parker is referred to as “the little nerd” along with Doctor Strange in Earth-199999 by Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099. Judging by the tone, the futuristic Wall Crawler probably isn’t very fond of the two, considering how they almost tear the multiverse apart in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.

Making his MCU debut in Captain America Civil War back in 2016, Tom Holland’s Spidey quickly captured the audience’s heart with his impressive performance. Following the successful entrance, the Uncharted star gets his 3 solo Spider-Man movies in 2017, 2019, and 2021, while also appearing in other Marvel’s big titles such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. A fourth Spider-Man sequel is currently in progress, but is temporarily halted due to the current writers’ strike.

Tom Holland’s role as Peter Parker makes him the third actor to play the Wall Crawler on the big screen in the 21st Century, after Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland. While Sony still retains Spider-Man image rights, he also makes a cameo in Venom: Let There Be Carnage in 2021.
