This 16-Year-Old Cat Was About To Be Put Down, But A Kind Woman Came Into His Life And Changed Everything

Maxx, a 16-year-old cat, was first brought to the vet’s office with a laundry list of complaints from his previous owner, who asked the vet to put him down, even though he was perfectly healthy. The people at the vet clinic desperately tried to find Maxx a new home so that wouldn't have to happen. One of them contacted Lahmia Mareeal Marano asking for her help. Marano opened her message up to find the picture of old grumpy Maxx staring at her. She knew right away that she would do all she could in order to save this cat.

“I tried my hardest to find him a home and I almost did it, but they couldn’t take him in the end,” Marano told The Dodo. “On that Thursday, I was told that if Maxx didn’t find a home, then he would be put to sleep at the owner's request. I just couldn’t let that happen, so I got in my car the next day and drove the hour and a half to get him.”

Marano wasn't planning on taking in another cat, but she felt that adopting Maxx was the right thing to do for her. So, adopt him she did, and as fate would have it, this unpremeditated act of kindness came to be one of the best things to happen to both of their lives.

“When I met Maxx, he was obviously very upset and very chatty, but I think he knew I was there to save him,” Marano said. “He immediately butted my head. In that moment, I knew he was meant to be mine.”

Because of all that was happening, Maxx had been cranky and bewildered, but as soon as he saw his new mom, he instantly became more relaxed. It seemed that he was aware of Marano's intention to take him home and that she was saving him from his demise.

Maxx became the ideal addition to Marano's family the moment she brought him home. He didn't have any trouble settling in, and his favorite activity is to follow his new mother around and tell her how much he loves her.

“Maxx settled in the pack very quickly and soon found his favorite spot: the sink,” Marano said. “He’s very chatty and we have full conversations sometimes. I think he understands that he’s safe with me. He follows me around and stands guard while I shower, something he did the first day I brought him home.”

Marano could not have expected that she would welcome another member into her little family when she first received her friend's text, but now looking back at it, she is grateful to the hand of fate for bringing Maxx to her. The old cat Maxx is now living his best life with his new mom, as if they were always meant to be together. He even has his own Instagram account now, check it out and see just how happy the grumpy old lad is with his new family.
