The Truth Behind Miracle Fluffy Clouds Above Denmark’s Small Island

If you love both mighty mountains and lovely white clouds, Lítla Dímun may be your ideal place. Being the smallest island in the Faroe Islands of Denmark, it is the only one without any trace of humans. With an area of half a square mile and a height of over 400 meters, Lítla Dímun is surrounded by pristine water that makes its wild shape and green vegetation stand out.

However, the most stunning feature of this island is its fuzzy hat made of a typical cloud called a lenticular cloud. This phenomenon often takes place over mountain peaks when the air is so cold that it condenses into clouds. The fascinating point is that, unlike normal clouds, lenticular clouds don’t move anywhere. They are reshaped by the movement of air over a mountain over time, but they usually look like lenses.

The beautiful lenticular cloud above the Litla Dímun creates a cute hat for the island, and sometimes this hat will expand or split over the sides of the mountain and reach the icy ocean.

Though this island is uninhabited, it is home to sheep and numerous species of seabirds. It is believed that the sheep came there since ancient times, about the 13th century. Every year, the shepherds from the nearby areas still come here to herd the creatures. The farmers have to climb up the island’s cliff with ropes, but it is unknown how they can take the sheep off the island.
