The Internet Is Thirsty With Margot Robbie’s Feet In Barbie, And Here’s The Actress’s Reaction

Theatrically released this July 21, Barbie turns out to be a pleasant surprise at the box office this summer. Grossing over 163 million worldwide just after the opening weekend, the adaptation of Mattel’s iconic toy has gained an advantage over its direct opponent, Oppenheimer, to be the most-anticipated film currently. With the innovative writing of Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s stellar performance as the heroine, Barbie is widely loved by the audience, and is expected to break many more milestones in the near future.

In the movie, Margot Robbie has done an exceptional job portraying the vibrant and complicated Barbie, who never stops pondering about her own existence and strives for more than what she has. Needless to say, the internet once again goes crazy about the Australian performer, but this time, the attention is all about her feet. The actress is also aware of the issue, and has spoken up publicly about it. Let’s hear what she has to say.

#1. What’s up with the internet’s obsession with Robbie’s feet?

The internet is a weird place, sometimes even downright creepy. As in Robbie’s situation, it’s her feet that they are after, with multiple fan arts, videos, and even analytic articles about them. The highly anticipated film features multiple close-up shots of the actress showing her bare feet. One of the most iconic scenes in the movie, which sees Robbie’s Barbie takes off her cutesy pink heels, and continues to walk tiptoeing like how the real-life toy doll Barbie would look like.

This particular scene goes viral on the internet, since it shows the insane level of detail that Greta Gerwig has put into her film, and the fact that Robbie has to walk in such fashion is no easy feat (no pun intended). Besides, anyone who’ve watched the trailer and the movie would be mesmerized by how charming Robbie’s feet are.

The actress, of course, is fully aware of the situation where the internet thirst over her feet, and she wasn’t creeped out by it at all. In fact, her reaction to the whole thing is very positive. In an interview with CinemaBlend, Robbie appeared with her co-star Ryan Gosling, and had the chance to reflect on the bizarre matter, and how she found out about the feet hunt while ego-searching for herself on the net.

"The very first time I Googled myself -- you know how when you type something into Google and it predicts what the rest of it is going to be? -- I'd started working and I was on some things and I hadn’t Googled myself before. And so I wrote in 'Margot Robbie' and before I finished writing 'Robbie,' 'Margot Robbie feet' came up.” Said the actress, who was clearly amused by the situation. It appears that she even found a video compilation footage of just her feet.

The Suicide Squad star also added that she was very “flattered” that her feet got the whole internet excited. “I think that's lovely. I don't feel weird about it. I am actually like, that's nice." Robbie giggled. Her co-star Gosling also chimed in, opened a canned drink and made the toast: “To Margot’s feet!”

We all know that Robbie is a very down-to-earth actress and has a great sense of humor, so the fact that she joins in with the running joke makes us love her even more.

#3. Did Barbie use CGI for the feet scene?

Robbie’s arch feet sequence amazes us not only because of the sheer beauty of her feet, but also because people are genuinely curious about how she did it. Walking on tiptoes like that is never easy, and to walk in such an extreme manner as Robbie did in the movie is quite incredible on its own, so fans wondered if the studio did use CGI to create the scene at all.

Addressing this question, Greta Gerwig herself explained that the studio executives initially want to accomplish it with the help of CGI at first, but she turned down this idea. "I thought, 'Oh god, no! That's terrifying! That's a nightmare.' Also, Margot has the nicest feet. She has these beautiful dancer feet. She should just hang on to that bar and do it just like this," said the director.

Margot Robbie herself also wants to do the sequence on her own instead of relying on CGI or a double. “I always try and do my own inserts, like I don’t like when I watch a movie, and I know it’s not my hands. I hate that so much. I always say to the director, ‘Please let me do all my own things.’ I don’t like knowing I didn’t do it.” The actress shared with CinemaBlend.

According to Robbie, the shooting for the arch feet scene was also quite simple, contrary to many imaginations. "I was holding on to a bar, but that's it," she said. "I wasn't in a harness or anything like that." She also revealed that the shooting took only around eight takes. The crew had put double-sided tape for the heels so they wouldn’t come off easily.

Barbie is currently premiering in theaters worldwide, so there’re still plenty of chances for you to witness Margot Robbie’s flawless feet on the big screen.
