The 'Brat Pack' Of The '80s—Where Are They Now?

The Brat Pack is a nickname for a group of young actors who frequently appeared together in teen-oriented coming-of-age movies in the 1980s. They were first mentioned in a 1985 New York magazine article, it’s now always defined as the cast members of two specific films released in 1985 -The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire - although other actors are sometimes included. The “core” members are Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy.

#1 Demi Moore

Moore had a string of hits in the 1990s after joining the Brat Pack in St. Elmo's Fire, including Ghost (1990), A Few Good Men (1992), and Indecent Proposal (1996). (1993). She also made headlines in 1991 when she appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair while pregnant and naked. Moore returned to Hollywood in 2003 with Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, and has since worked on projects such as Empire, Songbird (2020), and the Dirty Diana podcast.
In 2019, she published a memoir that sparked a lot of interest in her life and career.
She divorced Freddy More in 1985, Bruce Willis in 2000 (with whom she has adult daughters Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah), and Ashton Kutcher in 2013.

#2 Anthony Michael Hall

Science (1985) and Edward Scissorhands (1986). (1990). He later appeared on the television shows The Dead Zone, Awkward, Murder in the First, and The Goldbergs. Hall also appeared as Tommy Doyle in the 2021 film Halloween Kills.
He received three years of probation in 2017 after pleading no contest to charges of assaulting his neighbor during an argument. In 2019, he announced his engagement to actress Lucia Oskerova.

#3 Molly Ringwald

Ringwald has been one of the best at keeping her name in the news since her slew of '80s high school hits (1984's Sixteen Candles and 1986's Pretty in Pink, to name a few), earning a steady stream of credits before making a splash as a parent in the teen-centric series The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Riverdale. She later appeared in Netflix's Kissing Booth films (2018-2021) and Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
In 2017, her former Pretty in Pink co-star Andrew McCarthy revealed that Ringwald would play his son Sam's mother in the film All These Small Moments. "She emailed me on the first day and said, 'Your son just did a scene and when he walked away, it was just like watching you walk away from me 30 years ago,'" McCarthy recalled on The MOMS.Ringwald and her husband Panio Gianopoulos, whom she married in 2007, have three children.

#4 Ally Sheedy

Following The Breakfast Club (1985), Sheedy appeared in Short Circuit (1986), High Art (1998), and Kyle XY and Psych, among other films.
She married David Lansbury, Angela Lansbury's nephew, in 1992, but the couple divorced in 2008. (together they have one son who is transgender).
Sheedy reunited with Breakfast Club co-star Molly Ringwald in 2015 to commemorate the film's 30th anniversary. They reunited on screen once more for an episode of Single Drunk Female, in which Sheedy plays Carol.

#5 Andrew McCarthy

McCarthy rose to prominence in the 1980s, appearing in films such as Pretty in Pink, Mannequin (1987), Less Than Zero (1987), and Weekend at Bernie's (1989). The actor has primarily directed episodes of Orange Is the New Black, The Blacklist, and other shows. McCarthy does, however, continue to appear on screen, as he joined the main cast of The Resident during its sixth season.
McCarthy's memoir, Brat: An '80s Story, which discusses his time in the group, was published in 2021. "I backed away from [the Brat Pack]. The term was used in a derogatory manner "He told PEOPLE about it. "And being boxed in is the last thing you want in Hollywood."
He divorced his first wife, Carol Schneider, with whom he has one son, in 2005 and married his second wife, Dolores Rice, in 2011; they have two children.

#6 Judd Nelson

Nelson followed St. Elmo's Fire (1985) and The Breakfast Club with From the Hip (1987), New Jack City (1991), and Billionaire Boys Club (1996). (2018). He appeared on the TV sitcom Suddenly Susan for three seasons, opposite Brooke Shields, and had a recurring role on Empire.

#7 Emilio Estevez

Following his roles in The Outsiders (1983), The Breakfast Club, and St. Elmo's Fire, Estevez went on to have continued success with films such as Stakeout (1987), Young Guns (1988), The Mighty Ducks (1992), and their respective sequels.
Estevez wrote, directed, and acted in The Way (2010), starring his father Martin Sheen, and The Public (2018), starring an ensemble cast that included Alec Baldwin, Christian Slater, and others.

#8 Rob Lowe

Lowe began the 1980s with relationships with Melissa Gilbert and Princess Stephanie. In 1986's About Last Night, he reunited with St. Elmo's Fire co-star Moore.
His public image suffered due to his infamous sex tape scandal in 1988, but he eventually returned to the spotlight with roles in Wayne's World (1992), The West Wing, Brothers and Sisters, and Parks and Recreation. Lowe appears in the TV series 9-1-1: Lone Star, as well as Super Troopers 2 (2018) and Dog Gone (2023).
He has two sons with his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, whom he married in 1991.
