During the latest interview with Variety, Across the Spider-Verse producer, Amy Pascal, has shared with fans about Sony’s future Spider-Man projects.

During the interview, Pascal confirmed that not one, but at least two Spider-Man movies are already in development, and the two titles might hit the theaters sooner than we expect. The movies are revealed to be a Miles Morales film, after the animated versions’ success, and a title about Spider-Woman, who also makes her appearance in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. Released back in 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a box office sensation, grossing over $375 million worldwide, and is highly appreciated thanks to the solid plotline and unique stop motion-like animation style. Following the first film’s success, Sony continues to release the sequel, Across the Spider-Verse on June 2, 2023, and is initially receiving overall positive reactions.

The film hasn’t even been released publicly yet, but fans are already in for another pleasant surprise, as Pascal confirmed that another Miles Morales film is in the making. She didn’t reveal if it’s an animated sequel to the Spider-Verse franchise or a new live-action adaptation, however, the odds are leaning heavily to the latter.

#2. The MCU has hinted at a Miles Morales live-action movie.

If this turns out to be true, it’s going to be the first time that a Spider-Man of colors is appearing in a live-action movie, as the previous versions were all about Peter Parker. In the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise, there are some subtle hints about Miles that further enhance this possibility.

For example, Miles’ Uncle Aaron makes a brief appearance in a deleted scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming, talking with his nephew on the phone. And in No Way Home, a conversation between Electro and Andrew Garfield’s version of Peter Parker also mentions a possible black Spider-Man, which hints that Miles Morales might even make his MCU debut soon.

#3. Miles Morales is quickly becoming a worldwide sensation.

Despite the initial skepticism about Peter Parker being too big of a shadow, Miles Morales quickly becomes popular and establishes himself as a unique version of Spider-Man, and brings in a nice change of pace to the seemingly stale and overstuffed superhero genre. The sequel, Across the Multiverse, is also expected to follow the predecessor’s success with its initial positive reviews.

A video games version of Miles Morales, which was released exclusively on the Play Station platform by Sony Entertainment in 2020, also receives critically acclaimed reviews, and a sequel is set to release later this year.

#4. A Spider-Woman movie is also in development.

Besides Miles Morales, Spider-Woman is the other Sony project that was revealed during the interview, however, there are no further information about the casting or release date has been made. For now, two candidates can take the Spider-Woman mantle: Gwen Stacy, one of the main stars in the Spider-Verse franchise, and Jessica Drew, the comic version of Spider-Woman.

Jessica Drew, as Spider-Woman, also makes her appearance in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse movie, as one of several variants of Spider-People in the multiverse. In the movie, the character is voiced by Issa Rae and will be pregnant with a child. She made her comic debut back in 1976 in Marvel Spotlight #32, and stars in 50 issues of the ongoing titular series.
