SHOCK: Goldie Hawn Explains Why She Hasn't Married Kurt Russell After 39 Years Together

59% of adults aged 18 to 44 have lived with a partner without marrying. In fact, 50% of adults have never married. Nowadays, love and marriage can exist independently, and everyone can build their relationships in the ways that they want to keep them strong. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are the perfect examples of how two people in love can spend 39 years together and never grow tired of each other.

The couple met on the set of The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band in 1966, but they didn't start dating until later. "I was 21 and he was 16," Goldie Hawn recalls from the past.

Their second meeting actually happened in 1983 on the set of Swing Shift, and this time they didn’t miss the chance to get to know one another. "Then, years later, we met up again, and I remembered how much I liked him when I first met him," Hawn remembered. “We both said we would never go out with another actor, so it shows you can never tell.”

Before they started dating, Hawn had been married once before and had two children from her previous marriage, Kate and Oliver Hudson. Russell and Susan Hubley had one son together.

Hawn and Russell have been together for more than 39 years as of today. Wyatt Russell is the only child they share. Despite spending so much time together, they continue to love and support each other, and there is a crucial factor in how long their relationship has lasted.

“I think the secret is to know when to depend on somebody and when not to,” Hawn reveals in an interview. “It’s important that you can hold up your side of the house." I believe that one person can’t bear the whole burden because then their shoulders start getting heavy. The other part is to stay as sexy as you can and make sure you focus on all of those aspects of a healthy relationship, and sexuality is definitely one of them.

According to Hawn, a great long-term relationship requires 68% of your time to be spent together.

Even still, some might be perplexed as to why such a prosperous couple chose not to wed. "For people like us, the marriage certificate wasn’t going to create anything that otherwise we wouldn’t have," Russell said. A healthy relationship, in their eyes, is not the result of someone signing a document.

Hawn believes that being married does not necessarily imply happiness. It’s just about the people involved and their desire to remain as a unit.

“Well, we’re not at 40 years old yet. Our children got married. I mean, they didn’t get married. Oliver’s very happily married, and Wyatt’s very happily married. "Katie got married once, and that didn’t work, and now she’s with this most amazing human, and I don’t know if she’ll marry again,” Hawn shared.
“The point is that we all tried marriage, and sometimes marriage doesn’t work.” The actress went on further to say that you need to feel gratitude because “it’s good for your brain, your heart, and your health.”
