Shelter Dog Loves Attention And He Has Discovered Unique Way To Get It

We are aware that our animals constantly seek attention, and they will never give up once they get it. However, we know that it is a unique way in which our pets are expressing their love and devotion for us. Today, let's join us and get to know Rasca, a long-term resident of AMA Animal Rescue (AMA) who has waited so many years for a forever family. He is one of the most intelligent dogs at the shelter, and this lovely canine is very good at knowing what to do to get people's attention.

The senior pit bull adores people and would give anything to cuddle all day, but because he is a shelter dog, it's not always possible.

Rascal has lived at AMA since 2019, and while his friends at the shelter adore seeing his face every day, they also know that he deserves a loving home.

Rascal was sick and seemingly without hope when volunteers at AMA first met him, but they were determined to help him. “This precious boy was discovered by a kind-hearted NYPD officer, wandering the streets of Brooklyn, but he was malnourished and frail,” AMA wrote on their website. “We couldn't bear to see him suffer, so we took him in immediately and got him the emergency care he needed. With love, care, and training, he's overcome his past trauma and anxieties.”

Rascal's personality grew as he got better. The adoring boy, once scared and alone, was, at last, able to return to being a dog.

“Now, he's a playful and happy dog, ready to embark on a new chapter with his forever family,” AMA wrote.

Since his rescue, Rascal has been fostered and adopted a few times, but sadly, the misunderstood puppy kept returning to the shelter. “Our screening process is thorough and we usually never have returns, but, unfortunately, it can happen and it did,” AMA wrote on Facebook. “We're absolutely heartbroken for this poor boy … he didn't deserve to be discarded like that.”

Rascal has had to learn how to stand out from the crowd since he first walked through AMA's doors.

“Mornings are always hectic at the shelter,” AMA wrote in a Facebook post. “All animals are excited to see our volunteers, can’t wait for their walks, and are eager for their breakfasts. But Rascal came up with a new way of asking for attention … and we must say, it is working!”

While most of his friends at the shelter use their voices to grab the staff’s attention, Rascal does just the opposite — he presses his chin against his kennel door and quietly waits for someone to notice him. “Nobody can walk by his crate and ignore this cute face,” AMA wrote. “It is sad that Rascal has to come up with different ideas to grab attention just because he’s homeless.”

Today, Rascal can still be found resting his chin on his kennel door at the shelter. His friends at AMA are hopeful that the perfect family will scoop him up soon, but, in the meantime, they’ll keep soaking up all the love Rascal has to give.
