Shelter Dog Becomes Bestie With Plush Sloth While Waiting For A Loving Forever Home
Our lives occasionally need to be completely shaken up, changed, and rearranged in order to get us to the place where we belong. This story is about Jane, a stray dog who has confronted different challenges before she finally found the place where she is meant to be.
Jane is a lovely border collie mix, who was rescued by the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana (HSNWLA) 6 years ago. A few hours after the birth, Jane was found sleeping next to her mom and siblings.
After a short time being nurtured by her beloved mother and receiving lots of love and care from the HSNWLA team, Jane was mature enough to be adopted.
A few months later, in May of 2017, Jane found herself a sweet home. She quickly joined the new house and was excited to spend the rest of her life as a close member in the family.
“Jane was originally adopted as a puppy in May of 2017” Sarrah Walton, a longtime volunteer at HSNWLA shared. “Her family loved her very much.”
Regrettably, Jane later seemed not to get on well with the new family as she had a small conflict with the family’s little puppy.
“Unfortunately, Jane just did not like the small dogs in the home,” Walton said. “They tried for years to work with her, but, ultimately, they did the right thing by bringing Jane back to us at the beginning of 2022 to find a more suited home.”
Jane was then taken back to HSNWLA after years of putting effort into being friends with the little pup. There is no doubt that it was hard for both Jane and her first adoptive family to come to the heartbreaking conclusion that the family wasn’t the perfect fit for Jane.
“Jane had to adjust to being back in the rescue,” Walton said. “It is a big change from having been in a comfy home.”
Things were totally unfamiliar with Jane and the HSNWLA team certainly could feel that. Hence, they did everything they could to cheer this loving friend up.
“We did our very best to make sure she was loved on,” Walton said. “She went for car rides, field trips to volunteers’ houses, and sleepovers. But it just seemed like no one was interested in adopting her."
Day by day, along with warmth and fondness received from HSNWLA members, Jane found herself a new hobby. She is interested in lovely plush toys in the HSNWLA office. Gradually, she starts collecting new stuffed animals and playing with them most of the time. A tiny sloth is her favorite toy. Jane even refuses to go anywhere without her sloth.
“Jane loves her babies,” Walton said. “She loves to snuggle up with them. Her sloth is her favorite!”
Everyone knew about adorable behaviors of Jane and they started to send her new toys. A volunteer even gave Jane a handmade slot blanket to comfort her.
A year later, Jane happily got a second adoption. Her new mom and dad are Sarah and Justin M, a sweet couple. With her valued sloth goods close by her side, Jane waved her tail the entire journey to her new home. Even though it took time for her to find a loving home, Jane quickly blended in perfectly with the new family and enjoyed every single moment with them.
