Russell Crowe & Girlfriend Got Turned Down By Australian Restaurant Because Inappropriate Outfit
This time, according to the New York Post, famous actor Russell Crowe and his girlfriend Britney Theriot were refused service at a Japanese-fusion restaurant in Australia because they didn't adhere to the "smart casual" dress code. The pair then had lunch at a different neighboring eatery.
The event happened when the pair went to Melbourne's Mr. Miyagi fusion restaurant for a "quick bite to eat" following a tennis match. Mr. Crowe was sporting a Ralph Lauren polo shirt, and Ms. Theriot was sporting her tennis skirt, while they were playing tennis. They were sent away by the restaurant employees when they noticed their outfits.
Significantly, the establishment said that "work clothing, sportswear, singlets, and thongs (flip-flops)" are prohibited. It also advertised itself as being "casual yet classy." The two were dressed in "slobby gym clothing," owner Kristian Klein told the Daily Herald.
''We treat everyone the same. It doesn't matter who you are or if you are Russell Crowe. We've got a dress code that we push across every level'. We're not trying to teach people how to dress. But I know personally if I'm in my thongs and my boardies, I'm not going to try and go to a nice restaurant, because I wouldn't be dressed appropriately." Mr. Klein said
The proprietor said that the employee who turned away the pair didn't know the "Gladiator" star. Eventually, the restaurant made a joke out of the incident and posted it on Instagram.
“Dress smart casual, unless you're Russell Crowe, then wear whatevs,”
''Dear Russell, During your last visit it seems we got off on the wrong foot. After much reflection on what occurred, we have made a permanent change to our dress code. We would love to see you again in the future, you're always welcome at Mr. Miyagi.''
