In an interview with Architectural Digest, the 37-year-old actor delved into his venture into designing his dream sofa. He shared the process, starting from sketches and eventually crafting models using clay. It's quite surprising to see his newfound passion for furniture design, especially considering there was a time when he didn't own any furniture at all.
The Twilight star revealed that he used his creativity to make something in his empty home. He recalled, “There was a time when the only piece of furniture I had for about six months was an inflatable boat that would double as my couch, bed and dining table.” He added, “I loved it very much, but it caused a lot of back problems.”

Now, Pattinson can chill out, eat, and sleep on his special 9-foot-long sofa. He came up with the idea by daydreaming about a piece of furniture with soft lines. With some free time after filming The Batman in 2022, he decided to doodle and turned his imagination into a reality, creating his dream sofa.
“I started sketching pieces of furniture I thought would make people interact in a playful and informal way,” he explained. “They all had disproportionate, oversized elements that were quite fun. And in the process of making some models out of clay, I found that organic overlapping curves had a similar effect.”

Pattinson teamed up with Gordon, who had previously worked on decorating two of his homes, to bring his idea to reality. “Rob wanted a piece where you could nestle in to read,” Gordon said of the sofa, “but was also sturdy and stable enough for a number of people to sit on at a party.”

The final product is a super modern U-shaped sofa with two "floating," lobe-shaped arms, covered in white linen velvet and featuring embedded pink onyx drink trays on the armrests. Delighted with their creation, Gordon suggested that Pattinson share the sofa with furniture retailer Joel Chen, the owner of JF Chen in Los Angeles.
“I was in awe of the somewhat complicated design,” Chen told AD. “The sofa is entirely unique, and Rob’s strong sense of the angled shapes interpreted from everyday objects is incredible." He added, “I’m just anxiously waiting for his next designed piece. He certainly should not stop.”
