Robert Downey Jr. Is Returning To The MCU, According To X

Robert Downey Jr. had been a pivotal part of the Avengers and the MCU during his 11 years there, so it’s only reasonable that we would bawl our eyes out during Tony’s death in Endgame. Afterward, the actor also announced his retirement from the role to focus on other filming projects. However, none of them are able to surpass his influence as Iron Man.

Recently, it’s reported that Marvel Studios is making a new Avengers movie with the original cast returns. This means that not only Robert Downey Jr., but other retired performers such as Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson will make their way back as well.

As this rumor shook the community, the popular movie scooper on X, MyTimeToSayHello, revealed another shocking piece of news: RDJ has already reached an agreement to come back to the MCU. Needless to say, this rumor got every Marvel fan on their feet, as Downey Jr. has been an irreplaceable part of the MCU right from the start.

While both Marvel and the actor himself haven’t confirmed this rumor at all, it’s important to note that the account MyTimeToSayHello is quite a popular figure on social media, with over 143K followers on X. They regularly give the latest updates and rumors on Marvel films, series, superhero Movies, and anime. Another scooper site, ScreenGeek, also posted this rumor on X.

While Downey Jr.’s character, Tony Stark, has deceased in Endgame, many Marvel fans still want the actor to return to the MCU. In fact, after RDJ and Chris Evans left, the following phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been inconsistent in terms of story and quality, and the studio is slowly losing the trust of the audience. 

If Downey Jr. returns, fans hope that he can help restore the MCU back to the state it once was.

While RDJ’s character, Tony Stark/Iron Man, has deceased, there are still several ways to bring him back to the table. With the current Phase 5 focusing on expanding the Multiverse, Marvel can now simply bring back old characters by introducing a different variant of them from another dimension. 

Thanks to the Multiverse, they have successfully brought back characters such as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, Sylvie Odinsdottir, and different variants of Doctor Strange and Kang the Conqueror. They will also use this concept to introduce the X-Men to the MCU, including Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and more.

Therefore, fans were delighted to hear about this rumor, although the actor himself hasn’t confirmed anything yet. In fact, Evans leaves the door open to return to the MCU before, but only if “the conditions are perfect”. Besides, with the upcoming sequel of Captain America: Brave New World, starring his successor Sam Wilson, in 2024, we’ll probably have to wait a while to see the actor as the man out of time again.
