Rachel Weisz Discloses Private Texts Between She And Brendan Fraser After His Oscar Win
Brendan Fraser received recent congratulations from Rachel Weisz for his significant Oscar victory last month. The actress, 52, said in an interview that she contacted Fraser after he won the Best Actor Oscar for his work in The Whale. The two co-starred in the 1999 film The Mummy and its 2001 sequel The Mummy Returns.
"I'm so happy for Brendan," said Rachel, who earned an Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2006 for The Constant Gardener.
"I texted after his win. I texted him after I saw the performance. It was a staggeringly good film. I'm really, really thrilled for him… that he's had this new chapter. And it couldn't have happened to a nicer, nicer guy."
In The Mummy series, the actress played Evelyn, while Brendan played her on-screen husband Rick. Brendan is currently basking in the afterglow of his remarkable return, which includes an Oscar triumph for The Whale last month.
Brendan played a wheelchair-bound, 600-pound homosexual guy in the Darren Aronofsky-directed film The Whale. The movie, which was released four days before Christmas 2022, received a ton of praise, earning Brendan the Best Actor Oscar award.
"Thank you, thank you. So this is what the multiverse looks like. Oh, my goodness. I thank the Academy for this honor and for our studio A24 for making such a bold film. And - I'm grateful to Darren for throwing me a creative lifeline and hauling me aboard the good ship The Whale. I started in this business 30 years ago, and things - they didn't come easily to me, but there was a facility that I didn't...I didn't appreciate it at the time until it stopped."
Brendan was well-represented at the Academy Awards, but he made news of declining an invitation to the Golden Globes. He claimed a few years ago that Philip Berk, a former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which is the organization behind the Golden Globes, touched him in 2003, causing his career to "wither on a vine."
Brendan's version has been refuted by Philip, 90, who was expelled from the HFPA in 2021 for sending members a piece that called Black Lives Matter a "racist hate group." Brendan said that he "would not participate" in the Golden Globes this January in a late-year interview with GQ.
