In the hot summer of 2022, Freon's family moved to their new place, which wasn't pet-friendly, so they decided to leave him behind in their old house. The dog was wrapped in a ragged blanket and put on a staircase's landing with a bowl of food and a bucket of water. The landlord reported Freon to Stray Rescue of St. Louis animal shelter as soon as he knew the poor dog had been trapped inside the empty house for half a month.

Donna Lochmann, a staff of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, rushed to pick Freon up. Her colleague recorded some footage of the rescue and uploaded it on the organization's Facebook page. During their first meeting, the pup was very gentle and showed no sign of aggressiveness or objection. Previously, he was a little nervous and shy, but after several Vienna sausage treats and saying hello to the rescue team, he totally won everyone's hearts.
When they drove him to the shelter, the pup appeared to like the cold air on his face a lot, so the team named him Freon. He quickly made friends with other residents here and waved his tail happily when being with someone. After receiving medical care from their vet clinic, the joyful boxer mix was ready for adoption.
