Owner Get Surprised Seeing Feral Cat Living In Their New House
Imagine buying a house and finding out it comes with a bonus - a cat! That's exactly what happened to Miranda E and her family in 2018. They moved into their new home and discovered that it came with a long-time tenant—not a person, but a feline friend.
When they first entered their new house with the keys in hand, they discovered a note left by the previous owners, asking them for a "favor." The favor? To look after the feral cat who had been calling the backyard home for the past decade. A decade! Such a long time, right?
The real shocker was when the mysterious cat seemed to appear out of thin air right after they read the note. As if he knew all about the plan and the letter.
“We immediately looked out the back sliding glass door, and he was looking at us through the door,” Miranda said.
Even though Miranda and her family hadn't expected to be sharing their new home with a new cat, they were more than happy to take on the responsibility. They were already cat lovers, with five rescue cats of their own.
"We started laughing because we currently have five cats, all but one have been rescued," Miranda said. "The house we lived in previously, people used to drop off their cats there and we took them in."
This new addition to their family was named Raz. At first, he seemed to match the standoffish description mentioned in the note. Raz was quite aloof, willing to accept food offerings from a distance but making a hasty retreat if anyone got too close.
However, after several weeks of feeding him, Raz gradually started to trust his new family. He transformed from a cat who hid whenever someone came near to one who would comfortably share their space.
"He used to hide anytime we came to the door. Now we can sit outside with him," she said. "He will come up and eat now when the screen door is open, which he wouldn't do before."
Later, Raz even began to come to the door and meow when he was hungry. The family was overjoyed to know that he was gradually getting used to their family at that time. Besides, knowing that he still had problems with his paw, the family hoped that with time, they could interact with Raz more and eventually get him seen by a vet to address an old paw injury.
"If you have the means to take care of an animal in need, you should," Miranda said. "There is nothing like earning their trust and helping them live out their time comfortably and feeling loved."
Unfortunately, just a year later, Raz passed away unexpectedly due to suspected rat poison exposure while they were away.
“While we were away we believe Raz came into contact with rat poison and in all of our efforts to help him, he unfortunately passed away. In his final moments we talked to him and told him how much we loved him and what a good boy he was.” shared the family in the Instagram post.
They laid him to rest in the backyard he cherished and painted a rock in his memory. And though he could never come back again, we're pretty sure that the memories of him will stay forever in the family’s hearts.
