Not One, But TWO Sequels For Zootopia Are Probably In The Making, And We Are More Than Ready For Them

7 years after breaking records at the box office way back in 2016, Zootopia still clearly holds a special place in the audience’s heart. Fans have been longing since day one for a part two where the dynamic duo Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde would appear on the big screen again. And to our delight, earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the upcoming sequels in progress, including iconic names such as Toy Story, Frozen, and of course, Zootopia. Needless to say, this news got all the Disney fanatics in the world screaming their lungs out with joy, including myself.

And the best thing is, this is not the only good news we have about the sequel, or should I say, sequels, of Zootopia. Back in 2021, in a fan meeting, the voice actor for Finnick, Tommy Lister accidentally dropped a bomb that we all wanted to hear about.

“I can tell you for sure I’m doing another Zootopia with Disney. We are doing three of them… We are the biggest film that Disney is producing. The last one was 240 million. This one I’m hearing will be 300 million. That’s what they spent on the budget, not the advertising. But the movie made 2.6 billion, with merchandising and the box office,” shared the voice actor. This means, not only one, but TWO following sequels for Zootopia are already underway, which even doubles our excitement!
Surely this was a piece of information that he wasn’t supposed to leak because the video was taken down immediately afterward, but it’s enough to get all Disney fans on their feet. So, what can we expect?

Of course, the thing (we) audiences want the most for the sequel, is to have our iconic duo: The smart and diligent rabbit officer Judy Hopps and the sly but charming former con artist Nick Wilde to return as the next parts’ protagonists. In the first movie, these two weren’t especially on good terms at first, but then proved to be a powerful pair that overcame any challenges on their way. A lot of other fan-favorite characters are also expected to make a comeback, such as the dynamic sloth Flash, the superstar Gazelle, etc…

The prequel was an imminent success, which grossed $341.3 million in the U.S. and Canada, and $682.5 million in other countries for a worldwide total of $1.024 billion, and became a box office phenomenon at the time, breaking records left and right. Fan arts of Hopps and Wilde are everywhere on the internet (for different reasons), and fans keep demanding more content. All the more reasons for Disney to keep investing in the franchise. Last year, a 6-episode spin-off series called Zootopia+ was released on Disney+, which focuses on different side characters in the main movie.

A major Zootopia theme park is set to be opened as an expansion to Shanghai Disneyland in China. After being delayed by the pandemic, the project resumed in 2022 and is showing good signs to come to fruition.

There are no official trailers or any further information about the sequels yet, but we can keep our fingers crossed that Zootopia 2, or even 3, will definitely reach us in the near future.
