Noah Schnapp of “Stranger Things” Comes Out as Gay, and His Family Had An Unbelievable Reaction
Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers on Stranger Things, has publicly announced his sexual orientation.
His acting credits include Bridge of Spies, Hubie Halloween, and the voice of Charlie Brown in The Peanuts Movie. Since the show's debut in 2016, he has played Will Byers on Stranger Things. Many fans have assumed that Will is gay and in the closet, which has led to some speculation regarding his sexual orientation. These theories were highlighted by the show in its fourth season, which focused on Will's alienation from the rest of the group, especially Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), who was perceived by viewers as being intimate and almost romantic in their interactions.
The actor posted a TikTok video of himself lip-syncing to another video with the dialogue "What was it never? Will never be that serious, to be honest." The video is captioned, "When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was 'we know,'" as well as includes the description, "I guess I'm more similar to Will than I thought."
Fans also got to see another character arc for Will in the latest season as he appeared to struggle with his feelings for his on-screen best friend, Mike. Schnapp initially dodged the question by stating that it was "up to the audience's interpretation" as to Will's sexuality.
However, in a subsequent interview, he officially confirmed the viewers' theories. “I mean, it’s pretty clear this season that Will has feelings for Mike. They’ve been intentionally pulling that out over the past few seasons,” he emphasized.
He continued, “All his friends, they all have girlfriends, and they all fit into their different clubs. Will has never really found anywhere to fit in.” The actor claimed that adoring fans have approached him to share their reasons for loving Will and how much they recognize his persona.
He was lip-syncing in the video and an audio clip that said, “You know what it never was? That serious. It was never that serious. Quite frankly, it will never be that serious,” perhaps referring to his family's unfazed response. And he added, “I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought,” to the post's caption.
