Man Gets Called A Jerk For Telling Wife And Kids To Rehome Their Dog

Owning a pet sounds fascinating to many animal lovers, but not everyone can take good care of their pets. Once a person decides to bring home an animal, they should be committed and responsible for their pet. If they can't look after the furry guys as they plan, the best option might be to rehome the poor pets to comfort both parties.

Recently, a user called u/Ancient-Move-8356 turned to Reddit to ask if he was too harsh to his family when he demanded they rehome their dog. Though he never wanted a dog in his house, he compromised with his wife and kids and adopted a pup three years ago. He made it clear before the adoption that he wouldn't have to take care of the pet, and they all agreed with that. However, over a year later, his family gradually neglected the puppy.

As a result, he had been unwillingly looking after the pup for nearly two years so far. When one day he found out that the dog had ruined his shoes, it was the last straw. The dog seemed bored since it lost all the attention it used to get during the lockdown, and he felt it was miserable. He decided to bring up this problem to his family.

The man told his wife and kids that if they couldn't take care of their dog, they had to hire a pet sitter. He wouldn't do anything to help them with the pet, including buying dog food and cleaning its waste.

The Redditor's family was unsatisfied and claimed he should be in charge of the pet because it liked him. However, the man was determined that the pup wasn't his responsibility, so other members of the family had to handle it.

The user had found a dog lover who was willing to adopt the poor dog and planned to let it go. Unfortunately, his family started to berate him because of his decision, while he believed he was in the right.

In the comment segment, most people sided with the poster, even though they didn't like to hear about rehoming a pet generally. They saw the poster wasn't a dog person, and his family was too irresponsible to raise a pet. The best option would be to give the dog a chance to live with someone who wanted it.

Some people even praised the Redditor since he tried his best to take care of the dog during that time. Obviously, not many people are willing to do that once they feel uncomfortable with a dog in their house.
