Sgt. Larry Pinkerton's Career: The Lisa McVey Case

Sgt. Larry Pinkerton stood among the few detectives who lent a compassionate ear to Lisa McVey's harrowing tale of abduction and assault, woven around a red Dodge Magnum. He absorbed her narrative, absorbing every nuance—the apartment layout, bathroom articles, the distant train's rumble. Remarkably, he noticed the telltale trace of her on a mirror, strands of hair beneath a bed—a determined effort to mark her ordeal.

Diligently, Sgt. Pinkerton pursued her leads, tracing the captive's location and linking the car's description to Bobby Joe Long, a suspected serial killer preying on women in Tampa Bay. Armed with a warrant, he apprehended Long on November 16, 1984. Long's confession followed—a grim tally of 10 murders and over 50 sexual assaults. Sgt. Pinkerton stepped onto the trial stand, a pivotal cog in securing Long's conviction and death sentence.
