James Gunn Reveals Where He Wants The Guardians Of The Galaxy To Go From Here

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy is the prime example of a franchise that didn’t receive much appreciation at the start, but ended up exceeding all expectations from the audience. Under the talented helm of James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy is easily one of the best trilogies in the MCU.
However, after Guardians of the Galaxy 3, James Gunn left Marvel to reboot his own DC Universe in Warner Bros, leaving fans devastated. However, recently the director once again spoke about his beloved MCU project, and the path he wanted it to go after Volume 3. Let’s see what James Gunn had to say about the Guardians of the Galaxy’s future.

On social media platform Threads, James Gunn answered a fan’s question about who he would pick to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 4 in the future, and his current relationship with Marvel’s head Kevin Feige. In which the director answered:
Kevin and I are on great terms. Although a few characters aren’t coming back, I’d love for GotG to continue with the current members+ and I’d trust Kevin to pick the right person for that,” said Gunn.

According to the DCU’s new head, although he has left the MCU, his relationship with Kevin Feige is still intact. He also put absolute trust in Marvel's head to pick out the right director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 4, instead of choosing one himself.
Additionally, James Gunn also mentioned how he wanted the current Guardians of the Galaxy team, which has undergone a massive change in members, to continue their journey in the sequel, with a chance of new blood joining the squad.

Now, we all know that at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, some original members such as Star-Lord, Mantis, Nebula, and Drax leave the team to focus on their own adventure, while Gamora returns to the arms of the Ravagers.
The remaining members, Rocket and Groot, form a new Guardians team, with Kraglin, Phyla, Adam Warlock, and Cosmo being the latest additions. And since Gunn mentioned “current member+”, he might imply that Marvel should introduce more new characters into the chaotic squad.

So far, there hasn’t been any information about a potential Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 4 just yet, but judging from the threequel’s ending, a fourth movie could happen. Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed franchises in the MCU, so it’d make sense for Marvel to continue to exploit the squad.
As the new Guardians team is full of powerful members like Warlock and Phyla, the fourth movie might feature a much stronger villain than ever before to raise the stakes. Besides, the team could also return as supporting roles in other crossover movies, such as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Who would you pick to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 4, should the movie happen in the future? Should Marvel stick with the new Guardians team, or bring back the original lineup? Let us know in the comments below.
