James Gunn Gives Response To Hilarious Fan Casting An Porn Star As Lex Luthor In Superman: Legacy
Being the first official movie to kickstart the rebooted DC Universe, of course Superman: Legacy draws in a lot of speculation from both fans and critics, even though the movie doesn’t release until July 11, 2025.
With David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as the new Superman and Lois Lane, while also featuring multiple other DC heroes, such as Guy Gardner Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), the much-anticipated movie is promised to be action-packed right from the get-go.
However, the casting for the movie’s main villain, Lex Luthor, is still shrouded in mystery. It is reported that Nicholas Hoult, and the siblings Alexander and Bill Skarsgård are shortlisted for the role, but for now, James Gunn and Peter Safran haven’t made any official statement.
With Lex Luthor's role still undecided, the internet is flooded with different theories and fan-casting for the iconic DC villain, one of them being a renowned adult star Johnny Sins. James Gunn stumbled on this ridiculous fan-casting on Twitter, and here’s his reaction.
#1. The internet fan-cast Johnny Sins as the next Lex Luthor.
Ever since the project of Superman: Legacy is announced, there have been multiple Lex Luthor casting rumors going on the internet, however this might be the strangest one yet. According to an account called Le Cinéphiles, famous porn star Johnny Sins is “officially” cast as Lex in the much-anticipated 2025 title.
Johnny Sins, one of the most famous actors in the adult industry, has become a popular meme on the internet thanks to his many different roles in adult movies with different settings. In these movies, Sins often roleplays as a doctor, plumber, firefighter, and sometimes even an astronaut.

This hilarious casting by fans got everyone on the floor, as the actor and the character almost share nothing in common except their smooth scalp. However, a lot of people seem to go along with the idea, and even encourage Gunn to cast Johnny Sins for real. There are even news articles on the internet that talk about the rumor, making many DC fans confused.
#2. James Gunn, as expected, shut down the rumor.
And James Gunn himself is aware, and immediately debunks the rumor right away as a fan asked him on Twitter whether the fan-casting was real. The director answered: “Oh my God, you can’t possibly believe that,” in a rather playful tone. And even responded to another one with “Oh brother” as this account shared an article writing about the rumor.
While Gunn clearly sees the hilarious side of the rumor, it’s clear that he doesn’t want to take the joke too far, as it might cause some real confusion on the internet. So far, there are people who actually took the tweet seriously, and even asked Gunn directly about the strange rumor.
#3. Gunn still has one more DC problem he needs to address.

Meanwhile, many DC fans are still waiting for the new CEO to address Gal Gadot’s future in the new DC Universe. The actress recently confirmed that she had talks with both Gunn and Safran about her return as Diana Prince and a potential Wonder Woman 3 in development, however some reports from Collider and Vanity Fair suggested otherwise.
So far, Gunn has yet to confirm or deny Gadot’s statement, leaving fans in confusion.
#4. This isn’t the only time Johnny Sins is linked with the role.

Due to the two sharing the hairline resemblance, the porn star was, hilariously enough, also rumored to play Lex back in the 2016 title Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Of course, this rumor wasn’t true, as Jesse Eisenberg was picked for the role.
Jesse Eisenberg is also the last Lex Luthor on the big screen so far. While the actor didn’t do a half-bad job portraying the villain, Dawn of Justice’s overall underwhelming review makes it the only time for Eisenberg to appear in the DCEU.
