Is John Boyega The Next Kang The Conqueror? The Actor’s Answer May Give You A Shock

With Jonathan Majors officially found guilty on December 18, Marvel wasted no time in dropping the accused actor immediately. Now, rumors have been spreading around about what the studio will do next with Majors’ Kang the Conqueror: will they remove him from the slate, or simply recast him with another performer?
In case Marvel chooses the latter, there also have been many potential Kang contenders suggested by fans as a worthy replacement for Jonathan Majors. Star Wars’ breakout star, John Boyega, is one of them. However, the actor’s most recent response about the role may shock us all, since it’s definitely not something Marvel fans want to hear.

Like many others, Boyega has been linked to the role of Kang for a long time, way back to when Majors was first arrested in March. However, in an interview with Men’s Health back in 2022, the actor already expressed his disinterest in joining the MCU, after being asked if he would star in 2023 The Marvels.
"That's not in the vision for me now. [...] I want to do nuanced things ... I want to donate my services to original indie films that come with new, fresh ideas, because I know it's real hard to top 'Iron Man' in that universe,” said Boyega.

Not only did Boyega immediately debunk the rumors of him starring in The Marvels, but the actors also outright revealed that he didn’t want to join the MCU any time soon. Instead of joining a lengthy franchise like the MCU for the next five or six years, Boyega wants to focus on more original and creative film slates at the moment, the kind of projects that he won't have to commit to for a long time.
Besides, it seems that he’d also want to make a legacy of his own, rather than star in the MCU and get overshadowed by Iron Man.

More than a year has passed since the interview, and now that Majors is found guilty, fans once again mention John Boyega as a potential replacement. On X, a fan recently asked the Star Wars performer if he’s interested in taking the role of Kang. In return, the actor only replied with a hilarious GIF, where Donkey from Shrek shook his head disapprovingly.
While Boyega didn’t directly answer the question, his GIF is more than enough for fans to know that his point from last year still stands.

Boyega is best known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy from 2015 to 2019. Finn is one of the three main characters in the trilogy, but unlike Rey, Boyega’s portrayal of Finn is widely praised by fans. However, the actor has shown his distaste with Walt Disney for doing his character dirty in the 2019 threequel.
“What I would say to Disney is do not bring out a black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are, and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good,” Boyega spoke with British GQ regarding the matter. With his current relationship with the House of Mouse, it’s no surprise he doesn’t want to be in the MCU either.

The They Cloned Tyrone star also refuses to reprise his role as Finn in a potential spinoff TV series, stating “You ain’t gonna Disney+ me.” He also doesn’t want to return to the franchise anymore by saying he “was happy to go back to being a fan” of the Star Wars Saga. Boyega did say that he’d return in certain circumstances, but it seems that he only said it out of courtesy.
Besides the MCU, it is reported that Boyega has also refused to star in several other big-name franchises in Hollywood. Instead, he wants to star in original indie films, where it’s less time-consuming and the actor can get creative.
