"I Am A Lazy/Unkind Neighbor": Guy Is Criticized For Refusing To Take Care Of Neighbor's Dog Again

Sometimes, it's not easy to be a good person. We all feel happy to help someone just out of good intentions and know our acts are appreciated. However, after several times we do them a favor, they are likely to take it for granted and think it's our responsibility. These entitled people then feel irritated and might even bad mouth us once we refuse to help them.
Here is a neighborhood drama shared by the Reddit user u/wilberteinstein on the popular subreddit r/AmItheAsshole. The poster agreed to take care of his neighbors' dogs while they were on a vacation with their kids. Nevertheless, he couldn't imagine his neighbors expecting him to follow a list of requirements without paying him a proper payment.

The Redditor and his wife have been living in the neighborhood for one or two years so far. The couple next door, Candace and Jackson, have two kids and two dogs, so they ask the poster to watch over their children and their pets from time to time. They offer a few amount of money to the writer to show their gratitude for his kindness. One day, they went on a vacation and left their dogs at the Redditor's house again.

Though the poster tried his best to make sure the dogs had enough food and water and sometimes played outside, he got his work to do, so he couldn't keep his eyes on the pups all the time. Thus, he let the pets relax in the yard while he was attending a work meeting.

Then the Reddit user suddenly received a text from the dog's owner, which sounded so entitled that he was offended. Jackson listed several notes when taking care of the pups and wanted the poster to follow in the future.

The Redditor couldn't endure when his neighbor considered him a dog sitter and asked him to follow such a strict plan. He texted back that he would never take care of Jackson's pets or children because of Jackson's rude manner.

As everyone may guess, the dog parent started to make a fuss and told other people in the neighborhood that the poster was too mean.

Most online people sided with the poster and agreed with him that his neighbor was unreasonable. It's obvious that the way Jackson required the Redditor wasn't appropriate for someone who wanted to ask for help from another. If the dogs' parents weren't satisfied with the writer, they should hired a professional dog sitter.
