How Harry Styles' Mom Shaped His Passion For Fashion And Acting & Protects Him From Critics

As a child, Harry often sang songs in his grandfather’s karaoke machine, showcasing his musical talent at a very young age. Despite his parents' divorce, the singer reminisces about a wonderful childhood. As anticipated, his musically inclined mother nudged him toward The X Factor competition.

Although not making significant headway, this opportunity led him to join forces with other like-minded individuals, giving rise to the formation of "One Direction." Styles coined the name, a decision that proved spot-on. Together, the group reached the finals, marking the beginning of their meteoric rise to fame.

Harry's success has not affected his close bond with his mother. Even amid hectic concert tours and different time zones, the singer made it a priority to stay connected, calling his mom up to five times a day. Anne affectionately dubbed him a "mama's boy."

With their tight bond, it was evident Harry couldn't just be a guest at his mother's wedding. Witnesses at the celebration noted a constant smile on the singer's face. Overjoyed by his mother's marriage, he walked her down the aisle and delivered a heartfelt ten-minute speech, bringing tears to the guests. 

Adding to the sweetness, Harry generously covered £15,000 for her honeymoon in Seychelles. Although he initially wanted to cover the entire wedding, the newlywed spouse insisted they could handle it themselves.

Even though the band was doing well, Styles decided to go solo and immediately felt freer. Before, he felt restricted by his contracts. He shared a touching story about his mom's reaction to his first solo song. She couldn't hold back her tears, and Harry considered it a “good sign” because he values her opinion.

Despite his successful career, the Styles family went through a tough time. Anne's father had Parkinson's disease for many years. According to Anne, her son took great care of his grandfather and loved him deeply.

Aside from his skill in writing songs, Harry is loved by his fans for his bold fashion sense. In 2020, he was featured on a magazine cover wearing a dress, which led to some criticism. His mother defended him, stating that he was just expressing his individuality. It turns out, he got his love for dressing up from his mother.  

In an interview, Anne confessed, “I think maybe I had something to do with it because I was always a big fan of doing fancy dress with [Harry and his sister Gemma] when they were smaller, which Gemma hated, but Harry always embraced. Who doesn’t love playing dress-up?”

Everyone admired this mother-son relationship. In a post, Harry openly praised his mother, saying, “Sometimes the king is a woman.” Fans often share videos on social media showcasing Harry's gentlemanly behavior towards his mother at concerts, and these videos quickly go viral.  For example, in 2021, Harry asked the crowd to sing a birthday greeting to Anne, and the audience gladly joined in, creating an emotional moment.

Anne publicly supports her son's creative ventures in his acting career. When there were criticisms about Harry's and his ex-girlfriend Olivia Wilde’s latest movie, "Don’t Worry Darling," his mother boldly responded, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” It's hard not to agree with her.
