Great Dane Delivers 21 Puppies At Once, One Of The Biggest Litters Ever

Somewhere in Pocahontas, Virginia, Tanya Dubbs was expecting her large Great Dane, Namine to give birth to “13 or 14” cute little pups. What came to her instead was a total shock as her large pooch delivered an astounding litter of 21 puppies after a 27-hour-long labor. She was not at all prepared for the arrival of almost 2 dozens puppies. This impressive feat took Namine over a day to accomplish. However, out of 21 newborn Great Danes, 2 of them, unfortunately, did not make it beyond their birth.

“We got up to 16 and then she had another one,” the owner told WVVA. “I was sitting on the bed and she was on the bed with me and I was talking to a friend of mine and I heard a gush of fluid and I looked over and I said we have another puppy.”

Tanya had originally prepared to receive "13 or 14" puppies, but Namine went above and beyond her expectation when she gave birth to the 16th offspring. A litter of sixteen is already incredibly unusual. Then she realized that her pooch was not done giving birth when suddenly another baby came gushing out while they were both on the bed. “I was talking to a friend of mine when I heard a gush of fluid, and I saw another puppy,” Tanya recounted to the outlet.

Great Danes like Namine are recognized by the American Kennel Club as one of the largest dog breeds, standing 2 to 3 feet tall and weighing as much as 200 pounds. Their litter size averages around 12 pups, with larger breeds being able to achieve even higher counts. The Guinness World Record for the largest litter of puppies was set by Tia, a Neapolitan Mastiff, when she gave birth to 24 offspring in 2004.
