Gal Gadot Will Be Back For James Gunn’s Wonder Woman 3, And Here’s What We Know

The DCEU Movies don’t always deliver, but at least the studio rarely goes wrong with choosing the right actor for the role. We can all agree that Henry Cavill and Jason Momoa are born to play Superman and Aquaman, and likewise, no one can portray the charismatic Diana Prince better than Gal Gadot. While Wonder Woman 1984 didn’t meet the audience’s expectations, Gadot’s performance as the Goddess of Truth is still widely praised by the DC fandom.

With James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over the franchise and deciding to rebuild it from scratch, many fans were afraid that Gal Gadot won’t be included in the two directors’ long-term plan just like Henry Cavill or Ben Affleck, and that her brief cameo in The Flash would be the last time we get to see her as Wonder Woman. However, the model herself confirmed yesterday that she’s teaming up with Gunn and Safran for the next Wonder Woman title, which is a pleasant surprise for fans all over the world.

In an exclusive interview published this week with Comic Book, which was hosted prior to the SAG/AFTRA strike, the actress has confirmed that the much-anticipated Wonder Woman 3 will finally come to life after all the speculations, and she’ll reprise the role of the iconic Diana Prince. Gadot also said that she’ll work closely with DC directors James Gunn and Peter Safran to bring the movie to fruition.

During the interview, Gadot also expressed her love for the character, and that she’d love to play Diana again in future projects. "I love portraying Wonder Woman. It's so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we're gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together." The actress added.

Before the jubilant confirmation from Gal Gadot, many believed Wonder Woman 3 wouldn’t come to fruition, as months ago, the project was deemed halted infinitely. Patty Jenkins, who directed the first two prequels in 2017 and 2020, has walked away from the project, deeming the project as “dead” and didn’t fit into the rest of the new DC Universe.

Along with the threequel’s delay, Gal Gadot’s future in the new DCU was also put under scrutiny, even though the actress just tweeted about her “next chapter” as Diana Prince just a day before. However, it seems that Gunn and Safran have found a new path for Wonder Woman 3 to take, and of course, Gadot is an important part of the upcoming film.

While many believed Gadot’s future in the new DC Universe would come to an end due to Wonder Woman 3’s halt, DC’s new CEO James Gunn clearly still has the Fast & Furious star in mind for his upcoming projects. Responding to some tweets on Twitter earlier this year, Gunn has basically confirmed that he “didn’t let Gal go”, and had met with her several times to discuss her next titles.

#3. What lies in store for Gadot’s Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe?

With Wonder Woman 3 back in action, Gal Gadot’s future in the new DC Universe is sealed for at least the next couple of years. However, as the first chapter for the new DCU has already been established, with movies like Superman: Legacy, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing, we’ll have to wait for another good while to see Wonder Woman in her own movie again.

Of course, there’s still a chance that Gadot might appear in titles such as Superman: Legacy as a cameo, as the upcoming 2025 movie will feature multiple superheroes apart from David Conrenswet’s Man of Steel, such as Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner Green Lantern, and Mr. Terrific. Another upcoming TV series in Chapter One, Paradise Lost, which tells the story of the Themyscira Kingdom way before Diana was born, is also a good foundation to set up the events in Wonder Woman 3.
