Fire Country Season 1: Who's Responsible For Meg’s Death?

The midseason premiere of Fire Country was intense! In the season finale, "Bad Guy," Bode and the car he was trapped in fell off the bridge while his father, Vince, looked on. Episode 9, "No Good Deed," picked up moments later when Gabriela decided to go after Bode, putting both of their lives in danger.
CBS released two clips ahead of the show’s return so viewers who watch sneak peeks knew that Gabriela would find him, pull him to safety, and set to work on giving him CPR. However, with those clips being a part of the opening sequence for the midseason premiere, fans knew the two couldn’t possibly be out of the woods that quick and they were right.
In a flash forward to the week after the events that occurred on the bridge, an internal investigator began interrogating those present at that fateful call. Someone had died and Cal Fire was determined to get to the bottom of what happened and how the situation got out of control. Who will die in the end? Who is responsible for Meg’s death?

1. Did Bode die on Fire Country?

No, he didn’t. Max Thieriot, the actor who plays Bode Donovan in the series, is the lead, so it’s doubtful his character is dying anytime soon in the show. But the marker of good writing is putting the audience in a state of discomfort and concern when it comes to the leads even when we know they will be alright. Fire Country achieved that in this episode.

2. Did Gabriela die on Fire Country?

No, she also survived. However, she came close to losing her life. Before they could make it to the rescue team, she passed out. Her body couldn’t handle the intense stress she’d put it under not only with her dive after Bode but also the emergency procedure she’d done on Meg’s leg to relieve the pressure building inside of it.
Gabriela had taxed her mind and body. She also had water in her lungs as Bode later found out when he carried her to the team, hence why she’d been coughing nearly the whole episode. Bode did get her to the medics in time and they were able to treat her, though she did spend the week in the hospital.

3. Did Meg die on Fire Country?

Unfortunately, yes. With her blessing, Bode had left her behind so he could get Gabriela medical attention. He promised he’d be back for and when he reached the rescue team he let them know about Meg. What he and Gabriela didn’t know was that Meg was suffering from internal bleeding. They would have had no way of knowing that as she’d only been showing signs of pain with her leg. It’s unclear if she was even aware of the internal bleed as the pain from her leg could have been masking it.

4. Who killed Meg?

Meg’s parents wanted to hold someone accountable for her death, but Vince was able to talk to them about their grief, share his own, and express that trying to blame someone for what happened to Meg wouldn’t bring her back. So Meg’s death stayed mysterious while we waited for the next episode.
