Remember on December 1, 2020, Ellen Page, the well-known actress, disappeared from all social media. In her absence, posts started appearing from a man named Elliot. Netflix even adjusted the credits in their
Movies and shows to reflect this change.
On Twitter, they expressed, “We are incredibly proud of our superhero! Sending our love your way!” This moment was a big change, not just for the star but for millions facing discrimination every day.
Everyone has their own definition of happiness and for those like Elliot, living with actual gender is something meaningful and appreciated.
Living in Ellen’s body
Elliot Page had a tough time deciding to be himself and his psychological transformation took place in front of everyone. While fans are familiar with seeing him in the body of a woman, the actor changed his original gender. After all, the world has its eyes on him, watching how he’d start a new chapter of his life without losing his career.
As you know, Elliot began his career at age 10 with the first role of Maggie MacLean in Pit Pony. Right in the debut performance, he paid attention and even was nominated for the Young Artist Award, predicting a promising career. By age 18, Page took on numerous roles in various movies and TV series under his belt.
One of the outstanding performances is his starring role in Juno. Critics called him a “frighteningly talented” actor. At the age of 20, he became the fourth youngest Academy Award Best Actress nominee.
A new beginning
Succeed at a young age, Page was actually happy. He felt something different in her body for years. As a little girl, he dreamt of becoming a boy. He even asked her mom if he could be a man when growing up and this question haunted the actor for years.
Before turning 27 years old, Page voiced his thoughts. He stated that he had a special feeling for women and that he had met his perfect match - Emma Portner, a dancer and choreographer. It's hard to believe that a woman was willing to divorce a man to marry a woman. Their love story became the talk of the town but after all, they tied the knot in 2018.
Living as Elliot
On December 1, 2020, Page announced on his social media platforms that he identifies as a man and prefers to be addressed using he/they pronouns. He also shared his new name, Elliot. Many
celebrities expressed support for his decision, and he has become a source of inspiration for numerous transgender and non-binary individuals. Elliot's wife publicly praised him, saying, “Trans, queer, and non-binary people bring immense value to our world.”
Elliott Page made history by becoming the first transgender man to appear on the cover of Time magazine. For the photoshoot, he specifically sought out a photographer who could truly understand him and capture his authentic self, being a transgender man as well. In his interview with Time, the actor openly discussed his journey, touching on aspects like gender reassignment surgery.
Page emphasized that this transformative experience not only changed his life but, in a profound way, saved it, allowing him to fully embrace and live as the man he had always felt he was meant to be.
The actor shared, “I’m really excited to act, now that I’m fully who I am, in this body. No matter the challenges and difficult moments of this, nothing amounts to getting to feel how I feel now.” Living with one's true gender is incredibly meaningful. Now, he can excite the shower with just a towel wrapped on his waist.
The surgery did not just change how Elliot looks on the outside; it also had a big impact on his creativity. Since opening up to his loved ones, he's felt a surge of inspiration. Elliot has penned a movie script, delved into music-making, and is currently crafting a memoir that aims to inspire and uplift millions of people.
When it comes to the work environment, especially on set, Elliot hasn't noticed a significant shift, except for feeling remarkably comfortable in his own body as a man.
Why Page talks about it so much
While it's commonly believed that Elliot has inspired many transgender individuals to embrace themselves, the actor sees it the other way around. The overwhelming support he received after coming out has motivated him to become an activist, advocating for the rights of transgender individuals. Now, Page is actively engaged in the fight for these people's rights.
Based on his reputation, he wants to raise public awareness of important issues: “My privilege has allowed me to have resources to get through and to be where I am today and, of course, I want to use that privilege and platform to help in the ways I can.”
When being asked what he would say to himself as a child if he had a chance to come back in the past. The actor replied, “I would tell myself I was exactly who I saw myself as, and felt myself as, and knew myself as.”
Elliot Page published a book where he candidly shares his entire journey—from being known as Ellen to embracing his true self. Unlike many celebrities who have others write their memoirs, every word in this book comes directly from the actor.
He describes his life as a significant struggle for personal happiness: “Before coming out as queer in 2014, I’d made the decision that living my life was more important than being in movies.”
