Dog Abandoned At Shelter With A Heartbreaking Request For Euthanasia

Sometimes, pet owners find themselves unable to care for their beloved animals, and they're faced with the difficult decision of parting ways. While we can empathize with their circumstances, the sight of abandoned animals always tugs at our heartstrings. Think about it! A pet who is used to a life filled with love from your family—then, how could they cope with the fact of being abandoned? Regrettably, this scenario happens daily, and most recently, it was Princess, an endearing dog, who was caught up in this sad situation.

Princess found herself in a truly heart-wrenching situation when she was left at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. She was crammed into a tiny crate in a parking lot, and her belongings were thrown into shopping bags, along with a heart-wrenching plea. The note didn't ask for much—just that Princess be put to sleep, and her stuff passed on to other dogs when her time came.

Deeply touched by Princess's tough situation, the shelter knew right away they had to step in and help this furry friend. But Princess, at the grand age of 16, needed more help than the shelter could provide. So, she was taken in by Miri's Haven Senior Dog Rescue, where she was provided a second chance in life. Just like the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, Haven Senior Dog Rescue Center was actually worried about her previous family's strange request.

Georgia Dodson, director and co-founder of Miri's Haven, made it clear that they don't let precious senior dogs go like that, and neither did the shelter that contacted them.

Princess was understandably confused and frightened at first, having been abandoned by possibly the only family she'd ever known. But once she left the shelter, something wonderful happened. She started to come out of her shell, and it was clear to everyone that she had plenty of life left in her.

Dodson explained that Princess might be in hospice care due to her age and advanced kidney disease, but she wasn't in pain, apart from the emotional turmoil of being abandoned. Dodson said, "We see her thrive more and more each day, with a little TLC."

Now, Princess is living her remaining days with a hospice foster family, where she'll experience love and care for as long as she has. She might be an old girl, but she still has so much love to give, and everyone at the rescue is over the moon; they could make her golden years truly shine.
