Senior Cat Waits In 'Free' Basket, Hoping For Someone To Come And Bring Him Home

Pets in shelters surely have their own way of making themselves seen and heard, hoping for someone to appear and take them home. And you might remember the pup in our previous story, always reaching out a paw to passersby, or the cat who loves to perch on her kennel door, ready to meet her future family.

Today, we have an adorable cat with his own unique way of getting attention. He's found a cozy spot in the "Free" basket, showing off like a superstar, waiting for someone special to notice him and offer him a loving forever home.

Bud, the sweet 14-year-old cat, found himself at Putnam Humane Society during the summer after his owner lost their home and couldn't care for him anymore. Although he initially missed his dad and felt a bit confused, Bud has now adjusted to life at the shelter.

Michele Dugan, board president and shelter director for Putnam Humane Society, described Bud as an easygoing cat who loves being petted but can be a bit bossy around the other feline residents.

“[He’s] easygoing, loves to be pet, but can be a little bossy around the other cats,” he shared.

Several months have passed since Bud's arrival, and he's still patiently waiting for his forever family to come along. However, Bud has decided to take matters into his own paws to catch the eye of potential adopters.

Recently, the shelter staff noticed Bud sitting in a basket labeled "free." He's done it several times since then, almost like he's trying to tell people that he's also available for a loving home, just like the items in the basket.

“He really is trying hard to get adopted,” Dugan said.

While he hasn't found a family yet, Bud isn't giving up. He'll continue to perch in that basket, patiently waiting for the moment when someone finally notices and chooses him.

“Bud would fit in just about anywhere, but being 14, he really needs to be the center of your attention and be your one and only,” Dugan said.

However, Dugan believes that Bud will soon be happy in his new home; somewhere, he's the center of attention. But for now, he will still be snuggling in the free basket, eagerly awaiting the day he meets his perfect match.
