Brie Larson Explains Captain Marvel’s Absence Since Endgame, While Revealing Her Least Favorite Co-Star In The Marvels

Directed by the talented Nia DaCosta, The Marvels is the final MCU Phase 5 movie in 2023, and is apparently drawing a lot of hype from fans as new photoshoots were released recently. The upcoming sequel will see the return of the 2018 film’s main cast, including Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and of course, Goose the Flerken. The movie also marks the big screen debut of two new MCU heroines: Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), and Monica Rambeau/Photon (Teyonah Parris). With not one, but three protagonists at the helm, The Marvels is expected to be a box office blockbuster this winter.

Amidst the hype and speculation gradually building around the upcoming film, the leading actress, Brie Larson has shared with the press some interesting pieces of news about the Marvel, in which she explains why Carol Danvers has been missing ever since Endgame, her relationship with the others, and that one co-star that she couldn’t get along with. Let’s find out below.

#1. Where’s Captain Marvel after Avengers: Endgame?

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly recently, Larson gave us some new details about Captain Marvel’s whereabouts after Endgame. After hearing Nick Fury’s emergency pager call, Danvers immediately arrives to help the Avengers to take down Thanos, rescuing a stranded Tony Stark in the process.

5 years after the Blip, Captain Marvel returns just in time to destroy Thanos’ spacecraft, and greatly contributes to the victory of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Then she disappears again, and only returns at the end of Ms. Marvel TV series, when she suddenly gets swapped with Kamala and ends up at her house, as the latter is sent into space. The events of The Marvels will follow this incident.

"The way I was able to tap into it and understand it is the concept that Carol kind of became a workaholic, and she lost touch with her heart and with family and friends. That's certainly something I can relate to.” Said the actress. It seems that after the events of Endgame, Carol leaves Earth to continue her benevolent task: to defeat the bad guys from other planets, help the oppressed people, and might as well find a new home for the Skrulls in the process.

#2. Larson also shared about her least-favorite co-star.

Of course, the actress doesn’t hold grudges against anyone in the film crew, but this is a rather unfortunate circumstance. In the interview, Larson revealed that she’s still allergic to cats, which means she can’t get too close to bonding with Nemo and Tango, the felines that portray the fan-favorite Goose the Flerken in the upcoming sequel.

“I hope that (the allergy) changes. But until it does, a lot of the CGI budget goes towards me and the cat.” Larson confessed. This is quite a shame, since Goose is easily one of the most well-loved characters in the 2018 film, whose cuteness is almost as deadly as its attacking prowess. Being an alien who disguises itself as a housecat, Goose can easily swallow a horde of enemies with ease with its extendable mouth and tentacles.

Apart from Larson, the rest of the crew gets along pretty well with the two felines. "The crew was delighted whenever the kittens were around.” Said executive producer Mary Lovanos, who also claimed that it felt like Christmas with Nemo and Tango on the scene.

#3. The star thinks very highly of Iman Vellani due to her vast Marvel knowledge.

There are lots of Marvel nerds out there who can name all the members of the Avengers in under one minute, but very few can accomplish what Vellani did: successfully apply for a major MCU role. According to Brie Larson and other co-stars, the young star is a huge adorkable Marvel fanatic, who used to doodle Galactus on her sneakers and cover her room with Avengers posters and merchandise. This dorky side of Vellani makes her the perfect candidate for Kamala Khan, another superhero aficionado herself.

Apparently, there is even a running joke inside of The Marvels crew: If you don’t know, ask Iman Vellani, thanks to her incredible Marvel knowledge.  "I've just learned to trust Iman because she really has her timelines in order. She's the one that's always schooling us. I wouldn't know how old Carol is without her. She really does the math.” Said Larson.

Vellani got to showcase her impressive wisdom by correcting her co-star, Larson and Teyonah Paris about the exact time when they first met, watching Black Widow together at the box office back in 2021. "I just say things with enough conviction, and they believe me.” Vellani modestly said.

#4. Will Carol Danvers appear in Secret Invasion?

Currently with 5 episodes aired, there’s only one more chance for Carol Danvers to make her entry to the thrilling skirmish between Nick Fury and the Skrulls. Carol’s appearance in Secret Invasion would absolutely make sense, as she’s shown to have a strong connection with both Nick and the Skrull faction in the 2018 movie. However, both of them fail to keep their promise to find the Skrulls a new home, hence the rebellion act by Gravik and the others.

Considering the dire situation Fury and the others are in right now, Carol’s appearance would change the whole flow of the game, but since her power is too immense, it’s unlikely that she’ll be included. However, a small cameo role at the end isn’t out of the question, as in the MCU, the events in The Marvels will take place just months after Secret Invasion.
