Anthony Mackie Reveals His New Official Captain Costume, As Captain America 4 Gets A Major Title Change
The newest entry to the Captain America franchise, New World Order, is set to release in May 2024. The movie will see the ex-Falcon Sam Wilson steps up as the new symbol of America, having taken the mantle from Steve Rogers himself after the events of Avengers: Endgame. As the release date draws nearer and nearer, further information about the title is gradually revealed to the public. Last month, leaked footage on Twitter has shown us a glimpse of Sam Wilson’s new Captain attire, along with Seth Rollins’s presence as what appeared to be the new big villain of the new movie.
Earlier this week, more news is released by Marvel about the project, and this time, it’s from the main star Anthony Mackie himself. On Instagram, the actor shares a snap that reveals his official Captain America suit in the upcoming movie, along with a new much-anticipated face on the scene. Also, the initial title New World Order is no more, as the name of the newest sequel about the Super Soldier undergoes a major change that we’ll dive into right away.
#1. The new Captain costume is officially revealed, and it’s quite similar to a fan favorite.
In his latest Instagram post, Anthony Mackie reveals a snap on set that shows us a glimpse of the work behind the latest Captain America movie, and to think just a single picture can provide us with so much valuable information. On the right side of the screen, we can see Mackie standing sideways, rocking his new Captain suit, and wearing the trademark shield behind his back/
The costume’s overall color scheme gives us an eerily sense of déjà vu, as Steve Rogers also used to wear a similar one during Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which fans dubbed the Stealth Suit. Rogers’s stealth suit is quite well-liked among fans thanks to its sleek design and simplistic coloring, so to see a similar version in the photo draws out positive reactions overall.
#2. Harrison Ford is also presented in the scene.
The new suit is not the only shocking information from the picture, as we can see that Mackie is speaking to someone, and he’s none other than the charismatic Harrison Ford. It was confirmed a while ago that the Star Wars actor would replace the late William Hurt as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the movie, but this is the first time we’ve seen him on set. The character’s daughter, Betty Ross, who’s also Bruce Banner’s ex-girlfriend, will also make her return, portrayed by Live Tyler just like the old times.
In the Instagram post, Anthony speaks very highly of his co-star, and clearly shows him respect as an elder actor. We’ll be crossing our fingers to see how Harrison Ford will fill the shoes of Hurt, playing the iconic Thunderbolt.
#3. New World Order is no more, welcome to the Brave New World.
Another information we can extract from the photo, is that Marvel has completely changed the name of Captain America 4. The initial title was New World Order, as we all know, but in the picture, we can see the new name, Captain America: Brave New World being imprinted on the director’s chairs.
“When Harrison Ford tells you how kicking ass should look, you listen! LoL… Thanks for the on-set wisdom and laughs my friend! Can’t wait to do it again… Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World in theaters May 3, 2024.” Mackie wrote in his captions.
The sudden name change is probably the most shocking piece of news by far about the new movie, leaving fans bewildered with many questions. Why did Marvel change the name so abruptly? Why “Brave New World”?
#4. What Could Captain America: Brave New World Possibly Mean?
While fans are still shocked about the name change, Marvel hasn’t released any official explanation yet, but we can think of quite a few good theories. First of all, while the name sounds very cool and fitting for a Captain America title, New World Order already appears as the name of the first episode in the series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. While this is merely a minor detail, it’s still enough reason for Marvel to change the name.
Secondly, is a conspiracy about a new regime that will secretly control the world from the shadow. In the comics, this is called the Secret Empire event, which solely focuses on Steve Rogers being a Hydra agent all along, and on his way to becoming a fascist leader. Interestingly, one of the tie-in comics about Secret Empire is named Brave New World, which is completely identical to the new Captain America’s new title.
If this theory happens to be true, the new title Brave New World would make much more sense than the previous one. While Steve Rogers is unlikely to return to play an evil version of himself, the detail of him being a Hydra agent was already hinted at in Avengers: Endgame, when Steve had to lie: “Hail Hydra.” to the Hydra soldiers to get his hand on the Loki staff. With Sam Wilson taking the mantle, it’s not impossible that we might see him as a double-crossing agent in Captain America: Brave New World, and it would be an intriguing plot point to expect.
