Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania End-Credits Scenes Explained

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania by Marvel Studios contains two end-credits scenes, both of which have huge implications for Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phases 4, 5, and 6 of the MCU are termed the Multiverse Saga. According to studio chief Kevin Feige, and will delve into the franchise's multiverse possibilities. Phase 5 begins with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which delves deeper into the Quantum Realm. And more importantly, appropriately introduces Kang the Conqueror. The conqueror, who is tipped to be the next Thanos-level menace to the MCU, isn't the only form of Kang revealed in Quantumania.

The two post-credits scenes in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania reveal additional Kang variations. The mid-credits scene introduces the three leaders of the Council of Kangs, as well as a slew of other versions gathered in the aftermath of the conqueror's death. The credits scene at the end then establishes a specific variation, Victor Timely, and sees Loki and Mobius return to the MCU. Now, we'll dig down into what the Quantumania end-credits sequences mean for Phase 5 of the MCU and a few specific projects.

#1. Who Are The Three Kang Variants in Quantumania's Credit Scenes?

The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania post-credits scenes feature three new important Kang versions. Two of these can be identified by their parallels to their comic book equivalents. Immortus Kang, distinguished by his huge, elegant headgear, is followed by Pharaoh Rama-Tut. The third, futuristic-looking Kang doesn't appear in the comics, so he's either a remodeled version of a known Kang variant - such as Prime Kang - or a whole new character.

In terms of known Kang varieties, Rama-Tut initially appeared in Marvel Comics in 1961 as an Egyptian Pharaoh and Fantastic Four enemy. When Marvel's First Family journeyed back in time, they encountered - and vanquished - a fellow time traveler who had utilized his futuristic technology to become Egypt's monarch. Immortus, unlike other Kang varieties, is more prone to persuasion than aggression. Immortus fights with the Time-Keepers against other versions of himself in the comics, although he remains an opponent to the Avengers and Fantastic Four. Loki season 1's He Who Remains has Immortus-like elements, but the character was not a straight replica.

#2. What Is The Council Of Kangs?

The end-credits scene in Quantumania, which introduces Immortus, Rama-Tut, and the third Kang variation, effectively reveals the Council of Kangs, though that name is never mentioned. The Council of Kangs is led by Prime Kang, who duped Immortus into killing all other Kang varieties across the multiverse. The Loki season 1 finale largely reversed this plot, with Loki and Sylvie killing the Kang who was keeping the timeline in check and releasing his versions into the multiverse. This paved the way for the introduction of all these new Kangs.

In the Quantumania end-credits scene, Immortus is positioned as the leader of the Council of Kangs, which alters the group dynamic slightly. There is no Prime Kang unless the futuristic Kang is a remodeled version or another end-credits character (more on that later), and Immortus isn't operating against his versions. As a result, the Council of Kangs will be different than in the comics. Their motives appear to be centered on preserving their different kingdoms across the multiverse. Nevertheless, because Ant-Man vanquished Kang the Conqueror, they now see him and the Avengers as a danger, setting up the major clash of Phase 5.

#3. Quantumania Sets Up Avengers 5: Kang Dynasty.

The Council of Kings clearly establishes Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Whilst Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed the narrative of the film, the Quantumania end-credits scene establishes the Council of Kangs as the main nemesis of the fifth Avengers film. With the Wasp's assistance, Ant-Man was able to slay Kang the Conqueror, implying that individual MCU heroes may possibly defeat a single Kang form, although all of Kang's variants are extremely powerful. Their collaboration on the Council of Kangs elevates the collective to the level of a threat worthy of the Avengers reuniting.

#4. Victor Timely & Loki Season 2 Setup.

In the second Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania post-credits scene, a fourth Kang version, Victor Timely, is introduced. He is introduced on a stage in what appears to be the early 1900s, delivering a time presentation. In the comics, Victor Timely is an inventor and industrialist who establishes and names a town in Wisconsin after himself. This version of Kang becomes mayor, but he uses the technological developments he brought from the future to create the basis for later in the timeline. Victor Timely, on the other hand, is Prime Kang in disguise.

It's possible the majority of Loki season 2 will focus on Victor Timely since he's given such a prominent feature in the credits scene. The season may then end with the reveal he's Prime Kang - with him perhaps joining or taking over the Council of Kangs. Or, Marvel may avoid that part of the character's comics counterpart and he may simply serve as a one-off villain in Loki, as Kang the Conqueror seemingly did in Quantumania. Either way, the fact that Loki appears in the Quantmania end-credits scene is a clear setup for season 2, which is expected to release on Disney+ this year.

#5. When Will Kang Return In The MCU?

After the second credits scene in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a title card reads "Kang Will Return," but does not indicate in which movie or show. Surprisingly, Quantumania teases Kang's comeback rather than Ant-Man's.

That makes sense, mostly because Kang is slated to be the MCU's next major villain. As previously stated, he is slated to be the major adversary of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as well as a pivotal figure in Loki season 2. It's likely that a version of Kang will feature in or be the antagonist in the Fantastic Four film. Other than that, it's unclear when Kang will return to the MCU. But, with at least two further cameos confirmed after the third Ant-Man film, Marvel Studios is undoubtedly striving to fulfill the promise that Kang will return after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
