"...And Me, Rocket." Rocket Reveals His Name’s Origin In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3, And It’s A Real Tear Jerker
Rocket got to be one of our favorite characters in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and not just for comedic relief. I mean, who wouldn’t love this talkative, unhinged yet hilarious gun-fanatic raccoon? Originally a lab product of an organization that genetically engineers animals, Rocket became a bounty hunter who was adept at using guns and firearms. Along with his friend Groot, Rocket joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, and together they fought countless big bad guys like Ronan the Accuser, and Ego, who is Quill’s biological father. The adventures so far make us feel attached to all the characters, Rocket included, and we all hope to see our little mercenary and his antics again in the third part of the trilogy.
According to director James Gunn, part 3 of the Guardians trilogy will focus more on Rocket and his tragic backstory, giving viewers a completely different perspective about the raccoon, and how after all the adventures together, he still kept his distance from his new family. And with the somewhat grim tone in the trailers, this threequel is guaranteed to be an emotional one.
And not long before the premiere of Vol.3, a new clip has been exclusively released by Collider, which revealed how Rocket chose his name. You can watch the footage below:

The clip took place in what appeared to be a dark secluded place, with the raccoon himself, and his three other mammal friends who are also sentient, lying on the floor. They each chose a name for each other: Lylla the Otter, Teefs the Walrus, Floor the Rabbit, leaving Rocket. Finally, the latter made a decision: Because he want to build flying machines, he’d name himself Rocket to fly together with all of his friends, “to the forever and beautiful sky”.

In the comics, Rocket’s backstory was incredibly dark. He was a genetically modified experiment by AI to work as a janitor on a planet called Halfworld – the same origin as in the movie. Therefore, it’s very likely that James Gunn’s work will stay faithful to the original comics, which means you should prepare yourself to shed a tear at the box office. And not long before the premiere of Vol.3, a new clip has been exclusively released by Collider, which revealed how Rocket chose his name. The sneak peek shows us a wholesome and touching scene between childhood friends, but also has a somewhat disturbing vibe to it. This further cemented the idea that something emotional, or even tragic, will happen to either Rocket or one of his family in Vol.3.#3 Rocket has a tragic past, which explains why he still keeps distance from his friends.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is the ultimate conclusion to the original roster’s trilogy, and also James Gunn’s final project with Marvel. The movie is expected to have a big impact on the future of the MCU, with the possible demise of some favorite characters, the introduction of Adam Warlock, Quill and Gamora’s complicated relationship, with our hot-headed raccoon bounty hunter as the focal point of the show.#4 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 will hit the box office this May.
