Siblings Clash Over Whether Their Mom Should Help Raise 2 Y.O. Kid Their Late Dad Had With His Affair Partner

Leona Martinez

On the r/AmItheA**hole subreddit, one Redditor (OP) recently opened up about their older sister's life-changing decision. At 19 years old, she had to leave college to take care of a two-year-old kid their late father had with his affair partner.

The OP explained in the post that their family went through a tough time due to their father's cheating. While the OP still hated their dad, the sister forgave him. So after their father and his partner passed away in a car crash, the sister stepped in to raise the young half-sibling, making big changes in her life.

Now, she's realizing how hard it is to raise a child and has asked their mom for help sometimes. But she refused.

OP's sister told their mom that if their mother genuinely loved her, her sister would assist her in raising the child

OP's sister asked her open her heart to their little sister even though she still detested their deceased father. OP's mom was on the verge of giving in, but she needed some time to consider it.

OP received a call from their mom confessing that she hated the thought of having to raise a kid her late husband had with his mistress

She was unable to decline flatly for fear of damaging her friendship with OP's younger sister. OP advised their mom not to proceed. She won't be a good parent because she will be miserable.

The person says it's not the mom's fault for not wanting to take care of her ex-husband's affair child, and they think the sister, who is 19, is responsible for taking on a kid without being financially ready.

Unfortunately, that's how the system operates, and even if there were improbable choices, the agency is content that the child is in the care of someone else.
