Everything We Learned From Percy Jackson’s Official Trailer

Percy Jackson fans have waited for too long for a decent live-action adaptation of their beloved novel franchise. The Chris Columbus movies weren’t all that bad, but they felt like standalone titles more than a faithful adaptation. Therefore, it’s understandable for people to remain skeptical about the upcoming Disney+ series.

However, the recent official trailer released by Disney has shattered all the skepticism, showing us what a live-action adaptation of Percy Jackson should look like. From the main cast, and the supporting characters to the monsters in the series, here’s what we can tell from the trailer.

#1. Percy Jackson Season 1 Will Cover The Events Of The Lightning Thief

Judging from what we’ve seen in the official trailer, it becomes more evident that Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will cover the entire first book of the series. Some of the events from the latter half of the book, such as the encounter with Hades and Cerberus, and the epic swordfight between Percy and the God of War Ares, are also shown in the trailer.

If Disney decides to follow this trend, we’ll get to see each season of the franchise over one book in the novel collection. The first season will have 8 episodes, so it should be more than enough to adapt the whole first book.

#2. Percy Jackson Will Feature Novel-Accurate Monsters From The Book

Great news for Percy fans, as most of the mythical Greek monsters from the book are already shown in the official trailer. One of the best charms of the Lightning Thief book is the epic boss fights between Percy & his friends against the ferocious beasts from Ancient Greek mythology, and the Disney Plus series will cover them all.

From the iconic Minotaur battle at the start of the book to the Medusa encounter in the middle of the show, the trailer has everything to offer. It also includes some other monsters that were missing from the Chris Columbus movie, such as the Chimera and the Cerberus. The next Percy Jackson series is promised to be an action-packed one.

#3. The Trailer Gives Us A Glimpse Of The Iconic Supporting Characters

Besides the epic monster battles, one of the most anticipated fights in the upcoming Percy Jackson series, is the battle of our protagonist with Ares, the Greek’s God of War. Compared to fighting mythical beasts, taking on a literal god is a whole different level of difficulty, and we’re excited to see how Peter will prevail against Ares on the small screen.

Thankfully, the official trailer has shown us glimpses of the scintillating boss fight, where Percy (Walker Scobell) uses his sword Riptide to hold his own against Ares (Adam Copeland) on a beach. The trailer also features other gods such as Hades (Jay Duplass), Dynonisus (Jason Mantzoukas) as well as Percy’s mother, Sally Jackson (Threnody Tsai).

#4. The Trailer Gives Us A Clearer Look Into Camp Half-Blood

In The Lightning Thief book, Percy spends a good chunk of time settling in Camp Half-Blood, a summer camp-like sanctuary for all the Greek demigods in the US to stay away from monsters. Here, he meets Chiron, his camp advisor, Annabeth, Luke, and discovers his identity as Poseidon’s offspring.

From what the trailer has shown, we can rest assured that the TV series will focus much more on Percy's time at Camp Half-Blood than on Chris Columbus’ adaptation. The camp’s scenery looks great overall, and it seems to feature some of the best landmarks from the novels, such as the Divine Cabins, The Big House, and the Amphitheaters that we all loved.

The trailer also includes the demigods’ training ground, with the sword fighting arena and the archery field. Some familiar games between the campers, like Capture the Flag, are also featured, wear Percy and other demigods will engage in combat with each other to improve themselves. The iconic orange T-shirt, the camp’s uniform, makes its debut in the trailer, making fans even more excited.
