The Redditor (OP) recently found herself in a spat with her new neighbor, Karen, leaving the attendees of the birthday party confused.
On the r/AmItheA**hole subreddit, the OP shared that she and her husband adopted her late brother's three kids. They considered the OP and her husband as their parents, especially since the youngest calls her mom.
At the birthday party, the new neighbor came to ask the OP if her niece was her biological child, and she responded truthfully. But things got heated when the youngest niece called the OP "mom." The neighbor tried to correct things and told the niece to call the OP "aunt" instead of "mom." Then, "Me and Karen got into a fight, and it got ugly fast." Some moms supported the OP, and others called her a jerk. Her husband also agreed that she overreacted.
