20 Facts From The ’70s And ’80s That Seem Unbelievable Now

Daniel Figaro

Kids these days are growing up so differently compared to the generation 50 years ago. Children are now spending more time with smartphones and online stuff than going out and doing activities. In the '70s and '80s, kids were more like free rangers. They lived their childhood like the adventurers of the wild wild west. As people say, they went out after breakfast and would not return until dinner. For the whole time they were outside, they could do practically everything.
The lifestyle then significantly differed from what it is now. People cared less about child safety or simply everything safety in general. Parents allowed their kids to run unsupervised in the neighborhood. They rode bikes without helmets and hitch-hiked on the back of trucks. They experienced a childhood that today's kids can never know.
The kids then are now in their 40s and 50s. Still, the reminiscence of those good old days is one of the most beautiful memories. Are you curious to know about the glory of the '70s and '80s? Come with us on this journey to the past to learn how kids those days were doing.

#1 Promoting child smoking?!

Thanks to a recent thread by Dan Wuori, the senior director of early learning at The Hunt Institute, people had a chance to share their unusual yet fascinating childhood. Fairly to say, some of the things kids did in the past are just absurd! Be sure to reach the end of this post, as things will get more interesting over time.

#2 So it tastes like candy and smells like a cigarette?

As Dan shared, his school had a smoking area, which is already odd for an educational environment. Still, what are those candy cigarettes? Candy that tastes like cigarette smoke? Or cigarettes that have a sweet taste like candy? Either way, it's just weird to make that children's product.

Mind-blowing! Even after reading these tweets several times, we still cannot believe that the past can be this strange. Without video games and technology devices, the childhood of these (then) kids is indeed something kids these days can't even imagine. Still, it's like a multiple-chapter adventure book that takes us on journey after journey.
