A single mom has recently asked for help from Reddit after her brother keeps complaining that being a dog father is even more difficult than raising a child. To make a long story short, her brother owns a 10 lb Yorkie whom he buys a lot of elaborate items for. He has recently returned home after traveling around Europe for a month (it was intended to be a three-month trip, but he had to make it shorter because no one took care of his dog for such a long time).
He complained that being a pet parent was stressful, and expensive. In addition, it prevented him from doing the things he loved to do. Meanwhile, his sister, as a single mom of a 12-year-old girl, couldn't agree with that. From her point of view, being a pet owner and being a parent were two different things. Therefore, she disagreed with her brother's comparing his free life to that of any parent. It was a kind of insult.
In general, it's said that owning a pet and parenting are both challenging tasks, but the challenges are not the same at all. A dog is not the same as a kid, therefore, dog-sitting is still better than babysitting.

If her brother couldn't stand being a parent of a pet, he shouldn't have bought it. It shows he is irresponsible in his decision.Source: r/AmItheAsshole
