This is a way people use to call their cats at home or a feline they see on the street - by making the "pspspspsps" sound. In response, cats become attracted to the sound and start coming closer to you.
But, have you ever asked when this quirky sound started becoming the popular way to call felines? If you wonder the same question as user @ChuckBass11 did, please scroll down to see people trying to give the reason they think best explains it. It's hard to say whether these ideas are right or wrong, but scientists do have an explanation for it.

Dr. Péter Pongrácz from Eötvös Loránd University Professor of Ethology said that "pspspsps" originated from  “here, pussy, pussy, pussy” used a long time ago when people wanted to call cats. Over the years, it was passed from generation to generation. In 2007, the Texan band The Light Crust Doughboys published their song "Pussy, Pussy, Pussy" telling about a girl looking for her cat, and the sound started being used widely.
Let's see what people think about it.
