Reddit's Reaction To OP Who Stopped Talking With Parents As They Paid For His Sister's Study But Not His

We all know that education is not the only way to success, but it's the most suitable way for academically gifted students. We believe that these young people want to receive tertiary education so that they can challenge themselves with a more demanding level of knowledge, open the doors and become more confident in life. But if for any reason, they can't continue their study, they'll be sad and regretful.
A twenty-three-year-old man (OP) has shared his story on Reddit, in which he was forced to refuse the offer of Harvard Yale Princeton Standford MIT (HYPSM) to study computer science at a state school. The reason, as his parents explained, was because of the expensive tuition fees that they couldn't afford for him at HYPSM.
OP decided to listen to his parents. Now he graduated and was working at FAANG companies. He was happy with his work, and his current life. He had a seventeen-year-old sister who was about to attend one of HYPSM this year. While talking with the sister, OP was shocked to know that his parents neither wanted her to decline the university's offer nor complained about the cost as they did to him.
Unhappy and disappointed, OP talked to his parents and had an argument with them. After all, he threatened not to speak with them ever again. Scroll down to read the full post.

As the post was shared on r/AmItheAsshole, it gained 11.8K upvotes and 1.7K comments in just a short time. Netizens became very involved in the story trying to understand OP's parents and why they treated their kids differently. Here are some of the suggestions that we think are reasonable enough to explain the case.

However, some people thought that was OP's parents' favoritism toward his sister rather than him that could explain why they behaved that way.

Do you think that OP's parents were wrong for not letting him attend HYPSM? Share with us your opinion in the comment.
