Man Refuses To Give His Friend Who Has Autistic Son A Positive Reference For Dog Adoption, Redditors Thank Him For That

Susanna Grace

Rescuing a dog from a shelter is a beautiful thing to do to bring a better future to the dog itself. Therefore, it is important that the shelter take everything into consideration before handing someone their pets. Considering the CV of people who offer an adoption is a must, and sometimes, further interviews are required throughout the whole process. And, just like job recruitment, the shelter may prefer someone who appears to ensure their animals' safety and comfort once they're adopted into their household.
A Reddit user named u/Expensive_Assist_616 has shared a tough situation he faced when his friend asked him to give a positive reference so she could rescue a dog from a local shelter. The OP (original poster) finally refused the request because it was fake information, and it might be a danger for the pet. To be more specific, he explained that the friend was living with her autistic son who would probably mishandle the rescue dog. Therefore, he decided to tell the shelter the truth.

Since it was posted on Reddit, the story has attracted a wave of reactions with 2.6K upvotes and hundreds of comments. Netizens have different opinions about the OP's post, but the vast majority agree that he is not an assh*le to refuse while refusing to give his friend a positive reference.
The woman also realizes that her son "sometimes doesn't know how to be gentle" but still wants to adopt the dog. Doesn't she see the danger that the dog might suffer? Or does she intentionally adopt the dog so that her son can abuse it?

It's pretty much like a "red flag".

It's not about the dog's safety, but it's also for the safety of her son as well.

And we should protect the dog before something bad happens.

Some Redditors say that they would do the same as the OP if they were in his situation.

People rally behind the OP and thank him for thinking for the dog's welfare.
