5. Netherlands

The Dutch national team has never before been crowned World Cup champions. However, they have reached the FIFA World Cup finals three times. The Netherlands have reached the finals of the FIFA World Cup on back-to-back occasions, first in 1974 and again in 1978. Argentina won the World Cup in 1978 with a 3-1 victory over Brazil in overtime. For the second time in 44 years, Argentina has advanced to the semi-finals by defeating the Netherlands in a penalty shootout.
While the 2010 final between Spain and the Netherlands was close, the Dutch nearly won. However, Spain prevailed in the overtime period. Andres Iniesta of FC Barcelona scored the game-winning goal as Spain won the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history.
