Taking care of a child is never easy, but what if you have to take care of 47 babies? Yes, you hear that right. Forty-seven is quite a challenging number to many parents, but for this Canadian goose, she can handle it well.
“They’re so cute when they’re little—like little tennis balls with legs,” the photographer shared his first feeling about goslings.
On a night in May, Digout was sitting on the riverbank when he found the mother goose with 16 babies, which was actually more than usual. But the next day, when he returned, he was surprised that the number of the goslings got bigger. 25 on one day and 30 on the next. The number of baby geese even rose to 47! It was not hard to understand the mom was taking responsibility for her mate's children as well.
Normally, a Canadian goose lays up to six eggs. When parents of different families join together, a group of “gang brood" (baby geese) is created, and the parents split their duties.
Later, the group was divided into three enormous family units, but the supermom and her partner still ensure the safety of 25 children until it was time to head south again.

The moment this mother goose kept "her" goslings safe was caught on camera by Mike Digout, who came across them in Saskatchewan river, Saskatoon. He didn't think he loved geese but completely changed his opinion after seeing the sight.Source: Mike Digout

“I was out every night looking for beavers on the riverside,” Digout told, “and there was a lot of geese activity as they were coming from the south and seeking for a site to nest.” “It must be rather amusing to watch the geese compete for nesting sites and defend their nests.”“They’re so cute when they’re little—like little tennis balls with legs,” the photographer shared his first feeling about goslings.

Digout could tell this goose mother was cut out for the job: “It was astonishing how calm she was with so many goslings about,” he added. “She appears to be a patient mother.”Later, the group was divided into three enormous family units, but the supermom and her partner still ensure the safety of 25 children until it was time to head south again.
